Can anyone with current knowledge of the “option 40” contract explain something things for me? My son signed a 11x with the option 40 contract. It’s what he wants to do, fo be an airborne ranger. His recruiters are unable to explain the process at all and with myself being a veteran and my husband being a retired Group guy we kinda know more then the recruiters, we know that what they are saying doesn’t make any sense... so, I’m just trying to find out the process. He leaves July 2, to basic/ait @ Benning ..... and here is where we’ve gotten 13 different stories... airborne first, PRC &RASP first. Then he will go to his rangers regiment with a tan beret but he won’t be a Ranger he will still have to go to ranger school after that ... can anyone clear any of this up for me, the order of events and will he really be in PRC for 4 months?!?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have it down
OSUT, Airborne, RASP
PRC is pre Ranger, which is before Ranger School. Completely different.
RASP will take him to Ranger Regiment wand he will earn his tan beret.
Eventually he will go to earn his tab and go to PRC then Ranger School and earn his Ranger Tab.
Chances are he will fail. In my class, the ones who made it through airborne - 200 entered RIP holdover. 100 quit prior to starting RIP. Of the 100 who started, about 30 made it. That's a 70% attrition rate for the ones who started. 50% for the ones who made it through Airborne even entered RIP.
More than 90% of 18X and 11B Opt 40 IET Soldiers will fail to make it past the selection courses from initial enlistment.
As for if he's a Ranger... If you earn your beret, you're a Ranger. But you won't have the respect of your peers until you get your tab. That is worth more than any beret.

Someone here indicated that they send you to the Pre RASP and RASP
before Airborne now, but I haven't tried to confirm that information.

CPT Lawrence Cable that's for the in service candidates. I have a few candidates in my unit who are going soon.
When they are initial entry students Big Army pays for them to attend airborne and if they fail RASP the Army gets the benefit of a new Airborne soldier.
In service candidates get funded by the 75th so it saves money to have them pass RASP first.
