What is the process to change States in the Army National Guard?

Because of family crisis I will like to know what is the process of changing the state which I am assign to?

This is an IST (Inter-State Transfer), and is fairly common, as people do move. I believe the best way to do this is to first find the unit that will take you, and then you file an IST request via DA 4187 (update: combined with a NGB Form 22-5) within your chain of command. However, I recommend you give your chain of command a heads up on what's going on, so the first time they hear about this is not when you drop your 4187.
As far as finding a unit in the other State, you can either go directly to one if you know it, begin a conversation with certain units on RallyPoint (https://www.rallypoint.com/units/all-groups/usarng-us-army-national-guard-arlington-va), or contact the S-1 office of the State that you're interested in and have them put you in touch with the State accessions NCO to learn about opportunities. My personal experience was that it was a seamless transition between losing and gaining units administratively.

Contact your CoC, let them know what's going on. They should start the paperwork for you. Every state has a person who handles ISTs. Their job is to coordinate between the gaining and losing units. It may take a month or two for everything to be finalized, but your unit should accommodate you missing a drill weekend if you have to move.

Your State IST/ISR coordinator will be with your Recruiting & Retention BN. Any Recruiter in your state should be able to give you a POC.

The other question I would ask is: Are you going to be staying in the new state for a long time or will you possibly be moving again? If for some reason you might find yourself moving states again you may consider trying out the Army Reserve. Being Federal transfers between states is virtually painless.

The first thing you need to do is have a conversation with Company, and then Battalion, Commander. Keep them in the loop, and let them help you. Otherwise, everything that has already been said by other posters.

As some has alluded to it is pretty common to have this done. A lot of states are very familiar how to do this. I have used RallyPoint to help one of my soldiers do this. I was able to use the unit locator tool to find a unit and contact a person there to get the ball rolling. It was awesome to have a means to find a person in the unit he was hoping to go to. I would try to start there. Of course you should also go to you command and explain why you are doing it. Just saying you want to IST may not go over well. I am sure if he knew why they would be more than willing to help you.
