I recently got out of the Marine Corps but unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to go on a combat deployment. I know some guys deploy who are in the IRR by volunteering to go to a reserve unit that’s deploying or going as an augment if a unit has an open slot. Just want to know if anyone has done this and if so what was the process like, and how recently was it?

Go into reserves, do not go guard. So much latitude in reserves.

I’d recommend try going Reserves instead of trying to be an augmentee. For everyone else reading this, I’d recommend going Guard or Reserves before IRR. It’s much easier to move out of the military then trying to weasel your way back in.

Cpl Hamid, I recommend you reach out to a Prior Service Recruiter and find out what unit out there in the Marine Corps have a need for you in your current MOS or if you can fill a new slot so you can join the available unit for deployment.

Dont know if I'm late but the army has mobcop.mil and you can go on milsuite to look up WIAS takings, but that's Army. IRR is allowed to apply. I'm not sure if the Marine Corps has their own deployment sites , but maybe contact the Army IRR and see if you can hop on. Sorry I cant be more help!

Thank God you didn't go to Combat.. Go to the VA hospital and tell the Vets how lucky they were to go... You may have to yell at the deaf ones.. The paralyzed ones are the easiest to talk with as they can't wander away. The Vets in the VA National Cemetery will listen... they're all ears. I guess they were lucky to go too.

Unless you’ve experienced a deployment under multiple MOSs, please don’t give this service member misinformation.
