No one on RallyPoint can tell you what the punishment will be. The punishment is not the issue. Lost access badges need to be reported immediately as you were briefed when these cards were issued. Why have you not told this soldier to report the loss immediately instead of asking a question that you should know the answer to?

Bad news does not get better with age. If the soldier lost it, he needs to report it now. It will look worse for the soldier if the badge is found and turned in by someone else, or worse someone attempts access with it. The first questions will be when it was lost and why wasn't it reported.

Yes, by all means report the loss. Here's a little story from my wilder days. In 1999, while my battalion was doing OPFOR for the 45th Bde, who were preparing to deploy to what used to be Yugoslavia for peacekeeping missions, I noticed that an E5 had left his notebook on the checkout counter at the mini PX. Being the kind and generous fellow I am, I snatched up the notebook and took it straight to my S2. For the next week, we were able to monitor 45th Brigade communications, locate and attack the Brigade TOC three times, create havoc with their logistics, and start a small witch hunt by posing as one of their company commanders claiming to have found a weapon, M16A2, belonging to one of the sergeant's men. Shortly after which, the Brigade Commander called the sergeant's boss and ordered him to report to the Bde TOC with the sergeant an all of his troops for a 15-6 investigation. Using the information in that one, little notebook, we were able to sew disaster, and defeat the Bde's attack on our TOC, because we knew his plan. One little notebook. Report the loss, SPC Rogers.

Depending on the building the security badge is for.....could be serious issues. Contact the Security Manager for your unit and/or that facility for clearer guidance.

There's not much you can do to help other than telling him that being scared is a waste of time.
The loss needs to be reported immediately to cancel the badge.
He needs a new badge, and he can probably expect a counseling form that reiterates safeguarding the badge and procedures for lost badges, he might have to provide a copy of that counseling with the paperwork for the replacement badge.

He's not the 1st and won't be the last -- contact the security manager//S2 to report and "cancel" the badge. He should expect counseling and the headache of getting it replaced. Most facilities issue turkey badges until a new one can be secured

so did he lose the badge or is he just paranoid about the possibility of losing it?

CPT (Join to see)
SPC (Join to see) - Then we shouldn't be having this discussion here. I see you are an ammo specialist. I presume your soldier is also Ammo. Thank goodness he didn't lose a TS/SCI badge.
So how is he planning on getting into work? Last thing he needs is getting caught trying to get in without a badge.
Also, good thing he's still a PVT. Not like it's going on an NCOER to get iPerm'd referring to it. Being an E4 and below grants you lots of mistakes that don't follow you. It might hang him up on getting promoted or maybe even lose a grade, but meh..... It's losing a stripe or two that really follows you.
All this should be spelled out in policy by the issuing authority of said badge.

Look, it depends on the level of security. Yes you can get UCMJ action, It depends on what the S2 recommends to the CO. The sooner it is reported the less likely for trouble to arise!

Why are you asking us? This is a question that can only be answered by your immediate Chain of Command.
