What is the quality of infantry leadership at Fort Drum?

After serving four years at Fort Carson, I decided to leave the military. After two years of feeling extremely out of place, I joined back up and have orders for Drum. What is the leadership atmosphere like?

I've never been there, but I've reenlisted a lot of people to go back. Pretty consistent feedback was that the place was cold and the leadership was outstanding.

The units at Drum are fantastic, and generally have always been. I've never met a single person who disliked Drum because of the leadership or the units there. It's always just "its cold" and "we deploy too much"

Sucked in the early 90s but that was a long time ago. I think because the unit was relatively new at the time, just got reactivated in like 85ish, there was a lot of pressure. Now, with multiple deployments thorough the years, their reputation can do the talking instead of nervousness and trying to prove their worthiness in the 18th Airborne Corps, as that caused a lot a micro-management many years ago. Good luck
Oh yeah, and it's pretty damn cold there.

It depends what unit you go to man you’re gonna get cursed at some point with poor leadership but if you do learn from it my time at drum wasn’t bad

The leadership at Drum is just as cold as everything else. The sheer volume of toxicity at Drum convinced my wife and kids that we’d be better off without the Army. Thankfully, a year after I left, my old unit was BRAC’d. I hope it never comes back.

I was stationed up there at the Garrison M.P. unit. I hope you like snow.... Lots and lots of snow. Spring summer and fall months tho, the scenery is amazing.

Usually it's pretty good. The unit was great to me, one of the best units I've been in. Now even the best units get their share of bad apples, but overall Drum was good to me. Everyone else I've talked to that was there says the same thing. Location is cold with tons of lake effect snow, but you're 30 minutes from thousand islands and Canada and 90 min from Syracuse with their gigantic mall. Training is good especially as infantry, plus if you ever wanted Ranger school, you'll get your shot there.
