I just received orders to TRADOC. Back story, I've been in the army 6 months was prior service Marine for 9 and a half and my unit I'm in is transforming from strykers to Bradley's, so it's our time to go. Wondering who has experience there and what to expect

I’d make the best of it. I attend as many BIFV schools as your leadership allows. I’d also ask to do a ride along at both NTC and JRTC. Expeditionary operations inside a maneuver unit is demanding. You’ll get a ton of perspectives at the CTCs in a short amount of time. I’d learn all I could on network architecture down to unit MTOEs. Remember your first day there starts the count down to getting back to a line unit. High expectations.

no idea what to expect other than you have to understand that TRADOC is training and doctrine, it is most likely going to be very different than manning a chain gun, just saying

It’s Training and Doctrine Command. TRADOC is responsible for training soldiers and develops and publishes all doctrine used by the Army. So all the FM’s, ATP’s, ADRP’s, etc are written and developed by TRADOC. Essentially they are responsible for developing and maintaining the institutional knowledge of the Army. If you’re assigned to TRADOC you could be doing anything from training recruits at BCT, training officers at OCS or any of the BOLC’s, serving as support personnel or working in the various departments that develop tactics. Throughout your career and everyone else’s they will pass through TRADOC multiple times as they advance throughout their careers. Without knowing specifically where you are going, I can’t tell you what to expect or what your experience will be like. Just know that in some way you will be supporting or training Soldiers at all levels, across the entire Army.

Awesome. Is it consider a good assignment? Like I said, I've only been in the army 6 months but was marines for 9 and half, infantry in both

SGT (Join to see) Depends on what you consider a good assignment. No assignment is inherently good or bad, it’s all in how you view it and the amount of effort you put into it. In terms of learning it is an excellent assignment. You will leave with a better knowledge of doctrine and what it takes to train and develop Soldiers. I think TRADOC is a very good assignment as you influence the Army at every level.

I am headed back to Benning in July, right now I am at bliss. Our unit is converting to Brad's and kicked me out.....lol fort Benning is my favorite state side duty station. 194th is pretty big, 1-46 inf , 2-47 inf, 2-15 cav, 5-15 cav and 1-81
You could work for any of these.

TRADOC is training and doctrine command. They are responsible for the training of new soldiers, the creation of FMs, TM and the administration of army schools. You could be assisting drill sergeants, helping to make SOPs or even getting placed in a position to be an AIT instructor. I believe that the NCO academies are also under TRADOC.

Wow, I would speak with my CSM and ask that he get you a line unit. If you have been in the Army such a short time Trainjng and Doctorine Command is not where you need to be. Unless of course you are attending school. Thank you for your service.

CSM Darieus ZaGara
That was my point, sorry I wasn’t more clear. I think you deserve time in your MOS as an Army Infantryman to remain competitive at all levels. Your Marine service is valid and commendable. If you were a young Army E5 I would say the same to you. TRADOC has enumerator jobs, many of which are not at all related to your MOS, that is why I said you deserve to stay on the line until you are fully MOSQ and ready for SSG. Anyway, I still stand that you should speak to your CSM and get his input.

SGT (Join to see) - CSM Z is absolutely right. TRADOC is a whole different beast. Before I switched over to the Army I had 7 years in the Corps I even worked at SOI East for 3 years. I became a DS within my 1st year in the ARMY and TRADOC was a whole different beast. Since then I have only dealt with TRADOC and FORSCOM commands and to this day stuff mind boggles me. It has been so many years since I have actually done my MOS. Did they give you a post or anything like Fort Jackson? By that you should be able to break it down more to the type or unit in Tradoc you are going to.

SGT (Join to see) - Well that is a plus. Home of the infantry, well it has changed now to Maneuver center of excellence lol but is still home of the infantry. Well there are a lot of different things at Fort Benning that you can be tasked with. Since your not going to DSA that is one plus you don't have to worry about being on the trail there for right now. Hopefully you get to work some part of OSUT support for the infantry and still love life.

Tradoc on Benning deals with training other troops on main post,if it hasn't changed its non deployable.
