What is WOCS like for a maintenance warrant? What is the process to be selected in the National Guard?

Except for the Special Forces Warrrant Officer program, everyone attends the same WOCS. You can attend your State’s RTI for an M-Day Program, or the Federal Program at Fort Rucker. For the Rucker course, if you are an E5 with BLC complete, you will only need to attend the 5 week course versus the full Phase 1 & 2 7 week course.

(Other than the SFWOTTC) WOCS is Branch immaterial. Whether you are a walking Mx Warrant, Aviator in-training, or future Army Boat Captain (yep, that’s a real thing) you will have the same WOCS experience. WOCS is designed to teach the basics of officership while encouraging attention to detail and teamwork skills. There are some aspects that are a little “basic training-esque” but it’s the right of passage to open the door to opportunity. Everyone is in it together. Once you graduate, everyone will go their separate ways to their branch specific training. (To my knowledge, Special Forces is the only Branch that has been able to isolate their own Warrant Officer pipeline at Fort Bragg versus using Fort Rucker anymore. There’s a story to why. Everyone else uses the State RTI’s or Fort Rucker) Good Luck!!

The process involves seeing an ascessions NCO. They handle all interested parties with WO and Commissions for RC/NG Components. They are typically attached to the retention section assigned to your unit. Go there. You may even find a contact on a poster outside the office.
