I was reading a story about how the "recruiter screwed me" and thought back to my Navy recruiter. I actually signed paperwork for an available rate/MOS with the expectation that when HM (corpsman) came open in a few weeks, he'd switch my MOS for me.
He did and I shipped out on the expected date. I had a great experience with recruiters for the USMC, Navy and Army. not every is so lucky...

Here's a little story from the other side of the table. I once ended up under investigation because some POS "soldier" said I lied to her when I was a recruiter. First of all, she picked her own freakin MOS. What did I apparently lie about? She joined as a 68W, which is officially known as "Healthcare Specialist", however when she made it to AIT they kept referring to her MOS title as "Combat Medic." Based on that she wrote her congressman and I almost ended up hemmed up. Are there shady recruiters out there who lie to potential recruits? Of course there are, but like LTC Joseph Gross said, there are also a lot of kids who end up with buyer's remorse and throw out the "my recruiter lied to me" card when things get tough.

CPT (Join to see) - Don't mention your worst fears for the Army - ever. My worst fear was that I'd get assigned to Ft. Sill - I was there with FA as an enlisted guy and it was miserable. Right after being one of the first PTs in Iraq, I was awarded the Ft. Sill prize... It did turn out to be a great turning point in my career though so I don't blame my recruiter!

CPT (Join to see) - A good friend of our family turned down staying in recruiting and the rank they promised him too. Now he may get RCPed out of the Army but he really, really didn't want to stay in recruiting.

I've been talking to the cadre here at BOLC at they said they generally give the AMEDD recruiting officer slots to 70B types. From what they said if a provider ends up in one of those positions they must have fought for it. Maybe they wanted to be in a particular area of the country for some reason or something along those lines. I don't know how much it costs to send us through the DPT program but I imagine it's not cheap. Doesn't seem to make fiscal sense for us to get tabbed for recruiting, especially early in our careers. Of course Uncle Army often does things that don't pass the common sense test.

CPT (Join to see) - There are several SP officers that have been in recruiting since I've been in the army. I know two PTs that held BN Commands there. It could be you!!

Recruiting is like the mafia. Whether you like it or not a part of you is stuck in that world for life.
Those "the recruiter screwed me" stories are almost always the same thing. Some young kid without a clue in the world doesn't listen and then gets exactly what he was promised. I'm like you, I had a great recruiter!
