The Universe is a great feature, potential is really up to the user... job search, connecting with peers as well as sups and subs, etc. etc. great way to expand your network and an awesome capability.

A key differentiator of RP and LI is the intent to implement smart restrictions (tested yesterday by machine gun connecting). These restrictions ensure meaningful connections and interactions, which LI has lost. Keep up with this. From an investor's stand-point I'd like to know how meaningful connections really are and how you prove this through processes/measures in place and analytical proof after. This will help predict how successful future market penetration attempts of a specific type of customer (military) will be. In other words, will a vender's product successfully be shared between folks who trust each other not only to connect, but to buy what they buy? Your glide path indicates yes!

I find that LI has 99.9% adding to network and .01% making good use of the network. Activly seeking for PR members to connect with others in a smart intellegent fashion is an extreemly good thing. Imagine being the guy in the bar that knows everyone and what everyone does and what they are good at or in need of. That person is amazingly well equipped to say "Hey Bill let me introduce you to a Guy with a Hot Technology you should consider looking at." and think about the others in the room rather than ones self. Then bring back the Connection Stories to the RP for motivation and encouragement.

Arguably, LI is designed to be a professional networking site. I've made exceptional connections, and career advancement, based on some of the "strangers" that I have connected with on LI. It just depends on what you are using it for and who are connected with.
RP on the other hand is (seemingly) designed to connect military professionals in order share info, inter-military career opportunities, and former/current members of commands.
Career networking in general requires new connections to be made. Volume is important in building your "personal brand", ie LinkedIn networking... if nobody can find you, nothing will ever happen. If you don't want to be found, then LI isn't the place to be.

Is there a way to focus the discussions into groups, beyond the
Recent/Popular/My?
I know I can type a in a topic and see question and topics already present,
however sometimes folks like to browse/surf.
In addition, is there a way to check a discussion I started besides the e-mail
update? I am part of many discussions and when I click on the My Discussions I
have to scroll through all the discussions to find ones I created.

Hi,
Groups are in the works. Unfortunately you will have to wait until February/March until they are fully implemented.
As far as checking discussions you have started, we don't have a way for that to be checked yet, but that is a good idea for power users like yourself and something we will add to our list.
Thanks for the input!
