Study the history of American politics from the American Colonies to today, and you can get a very jaded picture of the constant battle to sway your opinions by painting the other fellow as a minion.

Anyone who says anything to get votes lacks a spine and would not get mine because they need to have their own personal convictions upon which to act and guide them, in essence...their own morality and integrity. Without it, they will do anything to gain votes instead of working to make our country a better place to live.

To me, it's like any other person that's going for a job.  I've seen people say whatever it takes to get a certain job.
"Sure, I can type 90 words per minute."
"I've worked with that type of program before."
"My biggest failing is that I work too hard."

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.  And politicians do the same thing.  The only difference is that they're fooling millions of voters, not just one hiring official.

Well, that's not technically for a job... But it's still all about saying what it takes to get what you want.

I'm dead set against it, SGM (Join to see), but when you "govern" to please the masses and to get re-elected, some of that is probably inevitable. In an ideal world, politicians would be men and women of conviction and would vote and govern according to their convictions, not based on a poll. I think there's way too much of that in government, and it seems to be getting worse these days.
