What is your unofficial or self-prescribed therapy?

My wife recently asked why I prefer the quiet of the National Forest land behind my house to the warmth and comforts of home... rain or shine. I didn't really have an answer for her. She tends to look at my "escapes" as she calls it, in a negative light. I look at it as my off the books therapy.
No I'm not officially diagnosed with PTS, many say I should head to the VA... that's another story. Yes I did a combat deployment to Afghanistan's Oruzgan Province in 2003. I self medicate. There are times where I find myself extremely frustrated with the day to day activities in a house with 2 kids and a dog. 6-8 miles later, stomping through the woods, I'm healed. My head is clear, short fuze has been lengthened. . .
So I ask you RP Community, what's your unofficial therapy? What centers you?
My hope is to share techniques that work for some, so that others can benefit as well.

I highly reccommend you check out SWITCHING CAMO. It is a company founded by Service members, including SFC Billy Hackworth, that assists veterans transitioning or otherwise. you can find them on Facebook as well.

a walk around the farm with my 22 picking off ground hogs does worlds of wonders for me.

I walk. I have been diagnosed with P.T.S.D. and I had some problems until I started seeing a "private" counselor. Through her suggestion, I got a P.T.S.D. Support Dog, and he and I walk 35 miles a week on average.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Nothing relaxes me more than spending 90 minutes trying to choke someone. My son, who trains with me, noted just last Wednesday how stressed and pissed off I was after coming home from work. Right after class I was a different person. Exercise in general tends to relax people.

Music, firearms, and woodworking. Music allows me to let my mind relax and let music guide me through wherever I may roam. Target shooting and cleaning my weapons force me to concentrate on something other than bothers and worries. Woodworking also destractes me simular to the way weaponry use and maintenance does.

I have diagnosed PTSD and get compensation. not what this is about, my therapy is working with young children. i recently got my state teaching permit and working with kids under 5 years old is a different environment and WAY less stressful . Its also nice to be around the innocence of children. i do have two kids 2 1/2 and 6 months old. life is full of frustrating things and Just outside life.

Weight-Lifting has always been my way of unwinding after a particularly difficult day. I try to keep myself busy and not give myself a lot of idle time to sit around and dwell on past events.

I turn wood, tie flies and workout.
I also work as a professional ski patroller in the winter. I usually get around 100 days AND I get paid for it. :-)
