I think we should ALL be in the same field uniform, like we were back in the BDU or OG eras.  We should take the EGA off the USMC camo pattern and issue the woodland and desert digital uniforms.  Packs and load-carrying equipment could be exactly as the USMC has done-- use coyote brown.  That way you don't have to stock the same equipment in different colors.

I thought it made the most sense to have one cammo uniform for all the services, & then let each individual service wear the rank, badges, patches, etc unique to their service. When I was on AD, I usually wasn't stationed on an Army post. NEX clothing & sales OR clothing & sales on an AF Installation would allow me to obtain replacements for my uniform as needed without traveling 8hrs one way to my closest Army post.

Plus, wouldn't it save the services money to have 1 standard combat uniform? It is, after all, 1 team, 1 fight!

Honestly, as far as the Army is concerned, I don't give a damn what pattern we wear, be it a unique one, or one worn by the rest of the services. I just want to see us transition back to a BDU style of cut. Give me a uniform I can actually press and clean, button up, properly roll sleeves (with regs to allow it please!), not get caught in a web of hook and loop fasteners, and some boots I can polish to match.

I just want to feel sharp in my uniform, and it's so hard to do with these wash and wear uniforms and boots. Every picture I've ever seen of guys running around in the 80's and 90's, just look sharp as hell. I wanted that part of the Army experience.

What is your view on going back to one uniform Service wide?

It appears that the Army has selected the scorpion multicam, so the discussion is probably over for a while.

It makes sense. We should pick the most effective pattern and adopt it service wide. Political squabbles and a desire to look "cool" have dominated camouflage pattern selection for the past decade.

CSM, I hate the ACUs, in any iteration.  I feel that all branches should have just used the "digital" pattern on BDUs and DCUs.  I've seen the uniforms issued for Afghanistan, and those would make a good utility uniform.  Personally, I would prefer to go back to darker colored uniforms, that look like they might actually blend in with natural foliage.  I also think that the services all wearing a similar uniform is a good thing, as it reminds us that our branch's particular mission might be different, but we are all US military and serving our country together.

When I joined there was one uniform, the BDU.  After Deser Storm hit, there were 2 BDU and DCU.  I think this is the best option especially with the current financial issues we are facing.  Why do we have each branch with a different patern?  I understand esprit de corps, however it is cost effective if the uniforms are the same, this saves on the govt buying al the same equipment in 4-5 different patterns.  I like the multicam pattern myself, but I like the way the Marine uniform fits.  esp the lack of vlcro and the durability.  If we could do something like that I would like it. The DOD must come to realize that some of the uniforms we wear are not practical, and need to withstand a combat environment.

CSM, I joined just as the army was switching.  I was one of the first cycles to be issued ACUs.  I bought a set of BDUs when I first arrived at Ft Carson in 2006, because that was what a lot of the leadership was wearing.  I always preferred the BDUs over ACUs.  I agree with you, stick with the multicam pattern, but use the same fabric and cut as the Marpat uniforms.
