Yea it’s a good job but you will need to learn a lot and go to the academy when you’re back in civilian life. Looks good on a police resume but you might not be doing a lot of actual police work in the Army. I was in a field unit and did more infantry stuff when I was in. All depends on your unit.

It also depends on what you want to do. You could be a firefighter in the army or even a surgical tech, learn in the Army and do great in the civilian world. I was an MP but became a firefighter/Paramedic afterwards and also went back to school on my off days and got my surgical tech certification. I did all my schooling after I got out and it cost a lot of money. Good luck bro, and don’t let recruiters talk u into a job u don’t want to do.

SGT Mark Estes thanks man! My recruiter hasn’t tried to push any specific job onto me, fortunately. I was in the process of being a police officer but felt a larger push to serve my country first so that’s what I’m doing. Love everything law enforcement. I’m really interested in being an MP but I’ve also looked into 31K

(Join to see) when you get out you’ll have to start civilian life all over again, I’d say if you get the opportunity to work PD take it! You’re serving your country in a different way. The military is great and I’m proud of my time served. But when it got out I had to start my life all over again. I used to want to be a police officer as well that’s why I went MP but after my 15 month combat tour and actually seeing combat, bullets flying both ways and seeing all the horrible things that go with it. It really changed my mind of wanting to be a police officer. So I had to figure out what I wanted to do and kind of start life all over again. I’m not trying to steer you away at all, just want to be real with you. Just think hard about what’s best for you. If you really want to join then do that too. Feel free to message me if you want to talk more. Good luck to you!

Go put in whatever MOS you may be interested in and get civilian job translations… or vice versa.

Your best bet is choosing an MOS that teaches you a trade skill (i.e. aircraft mechanics, small arms repair, any kind of maintenance and also anything IT related.
