I'm aware that 42a are working in the S1 shop.
I was wondering if there are any other MOS's workin in S1.

42A Enlisted and 42B Officers are the only ones I've ever known to work in S1. Why do you ask?

It depends on unit MTOE, but in my battalion for example, there are 27Ds as well.

1SG aren't 27D's focused more on the Paralegal side of things? Or do they have doing S1 functions at your BN? Just curious.

SFC Steven Borders - They are support for discharges and involuntary separations, as well as Bars to Reenlistment and any odd UCMJ actions that happen.

SFC Steven Borders legal, medical and personnel have to feed so much info back and forth to each other that’s it’s just more efficient to keep them together.
When I was a BN S-1 NCOIC, we only had 42A Soldiers working in the shop. The S-1 Actual was always a Captain (O-3) and in one place, we had an assistant S-1, who was a 1LT (O-2). At one point, before they assigned a permanent S-1, we had a Blackhawk pilot (CPT) as the S-1 Actual. Those were good times-- I got to spin-up the S-1 on policies and procedures, and he never kept us late on Fridays.

when I was a 1LT (MP) I was forced into being BN S1. two months later the CO fired me because I didn't know shit about admin. I just laughed and said, "Sir I told you that 2 months ago when you made me take the job". He didn't find it nearly as funny as I did.

LTC (Join to see) - Having the Blackhawk pilot as the S-1 was great. I was a 15U with a secondary MOS of 42A who was pulled into the NCOIC job because I was the only 42A SSG in the Battalion. But it was fun because He and I were both Aviation, so as long as things got done, we ran the shop the right way.

TSgt (Join to see) - I had the misfortune of not having an admin NCOIC. the prior S1 had gotten out due to pregnancy, the NCOIC PCSed. The BN CO stuck me in as S1 and the NCOIC was an MP PSG. the only other person in the 1 shop was a PFC fresh out of AIT. needless to say things did not go well.

I spent a couple of months as BN S1 as a 31A simply because they couldn't find anyone else dumb enough to take the job.

funny part: I told the CO when he forced me to take the job that I didn't know shit about admin and then 2 months later he fired me because I didn't know shit about admin. LOL

I’ve been in a BCT HQ for a long damn minute and I can’t honestly say I know what the S1 actual does. Seems like the 420A does all the heavy lifting.
Ah, for a simpler time when 91B (68W) 83F (obsolete) 72B (obsolete) and 71F (obsolete) were the backbone of the S1 Shop, with a second louie as the S1.

You could very well have somebody working in there as a temp replacement or someone cross training for a lateral move. Nothing that would be listed in the T/0&E but it is something you may encounter. Why do you ask?
