There are tabbed Rangers and then there are Rangers. There are tabbed Sappers and then there are Sappers. A tabbed Ranger is someone who attended Ranger school and earned their Ranger Tab. Ranger school is a leadership school. So basically if you see a tabbed Ranger, that person is a successful graduate of Ranger School who has earned their tab. Now a scrolled Ranger is someone who serves with the 75th Ranger Regiment. They are an elite light infantry special operations unit. They are what you would call "bad a55." No disrespect to the tabbed Rangers or Sappers but there's really no comparison. Their line of work is so different. Now when it comes to Sappers, there are tabbed Sappers and there are Sappers. Tabbed Sappers are people who have attended the Sapper Leader Course in Ft. Leonard Wood..... A tab is a tab a Scroll is a way of life....

Infantry and armor MOSs can also benefit if they can get a slot. Schools like sapper are usually mission dictated though. Most units are not going to throw money at sending a soldier to a school like this unless they are a unit of engineers, the soldier is an engineer, or the unit has an MTOE slot for a Sapper qualified soldier.

If you graduated from 12B AIT, that should be more than enough to wear that tab. They do the job everyday, but instead the give it to a medic who has attended a 28 day school. Makes no sense. That's like spitting in the face of all the real 12B who have been down range and preform the duties of a real Sapper.
