RP Members, Connections, and Friends I believe there are some really outrageous nicknames that have been handed out to some of you when you served in the Military. Lets' get them out there and don't be embarrased. Please share! This is one of those Posts that just keep giving over time. RP Members keep adding your nicknames.

Don't leave us hanging - share the story behind the nickname too!!

One of my many was: "Burly" and when I was a PFC/E-3 it was "Horse Collar!" Others I can't repeat from Basic Training - use your imagination!

With a name like Cornatzer...it was usually abbreviated to “Corn”... not too much creativity there. I have always been grateful that my parents did not name me Cornelia (a family name). My Grandfather, Cornelius, was “Corn Corn”, which he detested...I would have, as well.

Because I was from Kentucky and I had a slow Southern drawl I was simply called "Kentucky" and I played that role very well. As an example, I can remember one time while I was a basic training officer at Ft. Jackson we were training all the officers and NCO's from a National Guard company from Kentucky. At the end of their training, they helped me show all the other guys how we drink in Kentucky. That ended up being a very embarrassing night I will never forget. Thank God no one was hurt!

For me this can be rather lengthy. I Will try to keep the word count down. BCT was my first time with Nick's one soldier (former semi pro football player according to rumor) he had a ability to chatter when being corrected so they put him in a gas mask and had him run after and un-seen enemy Hence gas mask. My first nick because of my last name was John Boy. Way later new assignment new rank and New Nick after returning from a training exercise found a clipping from a SGT. Rock comic book taped on my door. 1SGT. Said leave it no one fessed up to it. In another unit I was Named Rockin Robbie as a wrestling title. and a friend of mine was Nick-ed Jumping Jeffery. Reassigned to Aberdeen Proving Grounds MD. as a PDI=Professional Development instructor (Small Arms). Instructors from all branches except CG. Got promoted to SFC. The Marines Nick-ed Me as Army Gunney, After the Gulf War I was working as 1SGT never frocked but the soldiers used the title any way So did the CSM. Then I retired and went to work as a Civilian in production and the Civilians all called me Sarge or Sargent. I just let it ride. Now fully retired I am POPPA to my Grandkids. I had one Nick Name which will go unmentioned that was found on the bathroom wall when I was in the 2nd ACR and the 1SGT. told me he was mad because I got the title and not him. He was the only one who would call me by it as well. A hole. I wasn't very proud about it but the 1SGT. Said I just meant that I was doing a good so be proud of it. That's my story. Thanks for reading.

Madman, Killer, Wild Bill and more unprintable ones! I actually thought that after I had E5, SOB was a term or endearment

I'm sure I've been called lots of things I've heard, some I never heard and lots of things I couldn't give a sh*t about. I earned a few nick names early on in my career for some of the girls I went out with (long story and offensive to those with no sense of humor) but Demo Dave and EOD Dave are 2 that stuck most of my career.

"Merlin" (pre-Top Gun) for a tail wind that got me from McGraw Kaserne to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in about 45 minutes on a CI exercise. McGraw was home to the 66th MI Group. Legend was, if you had a bunch of film to be developed, shoot your last shots of the HQ building, wait for the MPs, who would confiscate all your film, process it, return your negatives (except for the building), and a set of prints. Not under an hour, but still...
