Books, batteries (for flashlights so you could read in the dark), pogie bait (because C-Rats or MRE's 3x a day will make you real fat real fast, and of course TP since leaves and pine needles suck.

Oh my gosh. My FIRST duty assignment, I did not go to AIT, MET my unit IN the field...Here I am a young specialist, thinking this is 'campout with the scouts' tent, dirt floor, mat, web gear, M16, MRE's and there ya go, heck we just did that in basic right? WRONG! Big ass tents, plywood flooring with CARPET on em, AIRMATTRESSES ON THE COTS, A COFFEE POT in the tent WITH ELECTRICITY...I'm like, what the hell? My platoon sgt puts his arm around my shoulders, and says, hey, did you think this was basic training II??? Welcome to the med corps! *smh* I re enlisted for another 5 yrs after that one....lol
