if we were going to add something, I'd recommend a Benchmade knife or a Schrade multi-tool. (for what it's worth, both are made in the USA)

CSM Uhlig, the Schrade multi-tool is the one I prefer the most and have for the last 17 yrs. Every time I use it everyone asks me where I bought it or if they can have a closer look. It's my favorite over Gerber or other brands. Good choice to have too.

Compact and lots of ammo onboard. Awkward is fixed with practice. The South African Neostead is even more compact and available in an 18" 9 round for law enforcement and military. I believe that it was tested by "unlabled" personnel in the NC area at one time but could't get ATF approval at the time.

High magazine capacity in a shotgun is superfluous. The primary target should be doorknobs which require no suppression.
The M26 fills the need of compact, and allows the operator to quickly engage targets with a rifle after use.
With training, a user can adapt to poor ergonomics, but they will still be poor ergonomics.

CA teams are not going to heavily engage(ideally)bad guys any longer than it takes to break contact and call in bigger, scarier trigger-pullers to calm things down. I like the potential of a well-handled scatter gun when a meeting may go wrong (reference General Mattis, USMC on that one).
Shotguns are just a preference I have, like the use of blackjacks and brass knuckles outside of a combatives class when there are no points or trophies involved. I'm getting to where my chassis has too much mileage to trade punches and roll around on the ground with younger, wrong-thinking individuals that want to put me in a car trunk for guest appearance in a propaganda video.

When it comes engaging persons, a repeating rifle or even pistol will give you a much greater ability to place a high volume of accurate fires.
Shotguns are suitable for almost any purpose, but only ideal for ducks and doors. When they start issuing hip waders I might reconsider.

I'm not sure i understand the question. The Military does not need to deal with the myriad of problems that would arise by allowing "POW's". If you meant what handgun should be adopted, I would be in favor of replacing the Beretta with a handgun in 9mm or .45 that has a smaller grip circumference and is capable of passing any acceptance tests the Military can throw at it.

Your response is that which I am seeking. Not a POW question but exactly the type of suggestion you make. One other category for example: knives - which one? By "personal" I meant less than crew operated...should have been more specific.

When I served in the 327th Infantry Regiment Riflemen were required to carry the bayonet, and pistol bearers were authorized to substitute a large fixed blade knife of their choosing. That policy always made a lot of sense to me.

I say the if they want to stay with a 9MM go with the Springfield XD9. I would prefer to upgrade the caliber to either the Springfield XD40 or back to the 1911 45 ACP.
