What piece of gear would you tell a first time deployer to make sure to have?

Multi tool, civilian weapons cleaning kit, baby wipes and suction-cup hooks.

Babywipes lots of the plastic wrapped ones, Woobie, quart and gallon sized zip lock bags, and last but not least concentrated permetherin ( for sand fleas, flys, and chiggers?

I'd agree with everyone, Baby wipes is a must. Crocks, head lamp, and a lawn chair. I always took a baseball glove also. We had a bunch of us that played ball.

Subscription to Girl Next Door was the best thing I had in Iraq. Showed up every moth on time.

Bring your sense of humor. You will certainly need it and your unit will not issue one to you.

Toilet paper, baby wipes, cigarettes. The first two are self explanatory. Even if you don't smoke, cigarettes are a great bargaining tool in most countries to get something you want or need.
