You must complete a requisite number of months in an overseas assignment.

Make it retroactive to the 60s, and I'll comment. Otherwise, it's bullshit.

Directly following our deployment we received a memo from our unit administrator authorizing the OSR for wear. That made it much easier for us to clear up any questions. It's also a great lesson for other unit administrators who want to take good care of their Soldiers.

Anyone know if Reserve Soldiers who are assigned to a TPU/Drilling unit in Germany are authorized this? I looked in the Regs, and it doesn't state anything about a Reservist who lives in Germany and is assigned to a Unit in Germany is authorized this ribbon. I know Reservists can get their own ribbon for Active Overseas Training, but there is nothing that specifies if we are authorized the OSR. I even contacted HRC, but they could not even give me an answer on this. Anyone know? Thanks.

AR 614-30 table 3-2 gives the requirements for the award of tour credit. As SFC Settle correctly pointed out "Tours lengths for Iraq and Afghanistan have NOT been established" So according to the table either "Nine months in a continuous TCS/TDY status... where tour lengths have not been established." or "A minimum of 11 cumulative months in a TCS/TDY status in isolated areas where tour lengths have not been established by the Department of Defense (DOD)" may qualify a Soldier for an OSR. That's the basics there are a lot of different requirements for different deployments, OCONUS duty stations, return to CONUS for hospitalization, etc. You'll need to do the research and find out if any exceptional circumstances apply to you or your Soldiers.
