If an officer originally enlisted for 6 years at 7 and became an officer after that elistment, what rank would they typically be able to achieve at the end of their 20 years assuming everything went according to plan?

if this is all active component, 6-7 years enlisted then commissioned:
-at 11-12 years of service they would be a CPT
-at 16-17 years of service they would be a MAJ
if they retired at just 20 total they could be a CPT or MAJ.

maybe it's changed but when I was an LT, you could make CPT on AD in 3 years and 4 years guard and reserves. you could be a MAJ after 8. I transferred from the guard to reserves as a CPT and the guard drug their feet on cutting my transfer orders so I missed the O4 board cutoff by 3 days and I made MAJ after 9. Then they stopped doing 2 boards a year and because of my DOR I didn't have TIG for the O5 board until I had nearly 5 years TIG. Didn't get pickup up BTZ so it took me nearly 6 to get selected for O5. Unless you are a dirtbag officer you should easily make MAJ in 12-13 years.

I spent nearly 19 years enlisted. if you are a first look select every rank, after 13-14 years you could easily be a Major. I made LTC in 16 years and I got screwed over when I transferred from the guard to the reserves and missed the promotion board by 3 days or I would have made LTC in 15.
Even if you only made CPT, your retirement check is going to be bigger than if you stayed enlisted.

SP5 Peter Keane - When I was a PL, I had a SPC that had been an AD USAF CPT. Dude got riffed because he couldn't make MAJ and was doing 4 years in the guard to get his 20.

This particular LTC was riffed and given the opportunity to get his 20 as an SFC. One of the best officers in the Army back then.
