An MRE is considered a hot meal. There is a timeframe in which UGR and the like are to be entered into the regime as available. Some environments never see anything but MRE. You can ask your food service specialist exactly where to go and see the latest information, which changes based on the situation. Thank you for your service.

Showing my ignorance here, but how do you heat MREs. Aren't they in bags? Of course, you cannot use a can with sand and insect repellant. Perhaps a chunk of C4, with meal out of bag and in mess pan.

Depends on what is going on and the CO. If not tactically a problem, I had a CO that would have the XO bring out A rations in mermites every noon time possible. When not, Cs were OK by me.

What regulation dictates what kind of meals we receive through a training period?

I don’t know exactly, but I’m pretty sure MREs are acceptable for up to 30 days if necessary. I’ve had multiple exercises without a “hot meal”, but rarely more than 5 days. Not sure if the reg. I’ll check with our Dietician.
