So I'm not doing this to gripe or complain as much as I want to. This is for my knowledge so I can defend myself and others alike. I'm currently staying and the barracks of unit "B" because I did a lateral transfer to new unit "A". Currently working night shift and have been up since 1200 the day prior. Went to work at 1600 and got off work at 0430. (I still don't receive separate rations so I had no meal or mre during the majority of that time). I finally make it home in bed to sleep at 0500 to get woken up at 0630 by an NCO from unit B telling me everyone needs to go outside. Me absolutely tired as hell puts on some civilian clothing and goes outside to find out the MPS will be searching the building with dogs because they suspect drugs. A buddy of mine got called in not for drugs but for a training round from the 30 mm gun which is inert and not even able to fire but that's beside the point it was under a drawer in the very back underneath several items. They're gone through his room and searched thoroughly with only the first sergeant and a sergeant first class present. I don't know what his punishment will be but that's not my concern. My concern is that I was never even notified of this even happening, they have now ruined my sleep schedule and took them roughly 3 hours to finish. And I have no idea what my room is going to look like when I get back such as my $1,800 headset being thrown against the wall or my PC tipped over because they want to see what's behind it or my medical records that are in a safe that they shouldn't be going through. anything in the world they want to go through ruin who's to say that they're responsible when I don't even know who's going in through my room and I come to find out stuff is broken stuff is out of place stuff is stolen and let's see if they did want to charge me for something with no MP present and no drug dogs present that alerted the room saying I have something bad. And meanwhile this whole time I'm absolutely tired and have working here in a couple hours again to do probably another 12 hour shift. Like I said I'm not trying to complain on here I just want to know what grounds do I have to stand on if something like this occurred. And my current chain of command never knew anything about this or if they did they didn't tell me about it?

Wow, try living on board ship for 4+ years straight with your only storage your coffin locker under your bunk and one hanging locker! When I was in there was no BAQ for single sailors so whether in port or out at sea your home was the ship.

Your section sgt, squad leader, and platoon sgt can inspect UR room anytime.
There are announced and unannounced inspections.
That's their duty to ensure UR room is up to standards.

They will not tell you and they don't have to that's why it's a health and welfare.

As far as the safe with your medical records, if the dogs do an alert on it you may have to open it up for further inspection, however you should also state to those wanting to do the inspection that there are medical records in there. You probably wouldn't be allowed to do more than unlock the safe, removing any items from it would probably not be allowed, but I can't guarantee you that. The person doing the investigation be it the MP or the representative accompanying should be only allowed to inspect it for contraband items, they should not be able to read through the records as medical records are still protected under HIPPA even in the service, now if there is a legitimate reason for investigation of your medical records, and this is going into a separate issue not directly related to your room inspection, your command would have to have and be able to show good cause as to why they are wanting a review of your medical records. In other words your First Shirt or CSM can't just go to medical and say "Hey Private give me the records for SGT Snuffy I want to see if he actually had the flue last week or was just putting me on."

You should probably read AR 190-22 and the Military Rules of Evidence. Locked safe requires a warrant to get it opened.

Even with one it would have to specifically state that they had right to read medical records. TSgt (Join to see)

My initial unit pulled this on me once too often.
They'd wake me after a 24+ hr CQ, or snag me after duty hours for "a random drug test." Not cool. Well, after what must have been 3 or 4 concurrent "random" drug tests I addressed my Battery Commander. I advised him that "a friend" im JAG asked me to tell if I came up on any more "random" consecutive drug tests, as it looked suspicious. My Captain asked "PFC, are you threatening me?" I responded "Sir, not intentionally, I'm just sharing a previous conversation with you."
That put the breaks on that.
PS: I was bluffing.

Should have asked the UPL. There are two versions of the UA testing selection software, the FULL and LIGHT versions. Most units use the Light version because it is web-based. The Full version requires installation, which requires the S-6 or NEC to approve and install. No S-6 office or NEC is willing to do so, citing "security risks" with the software, despite it being an ARMY developed software program. Anyway, the LIGHT version does NOT remember which people have been selected/tested (the FULL version does). So using the LIGHT version, one CAN be selected every time the program is used. It's legal, and as much as it may sucks for anyone constantly selected, there's nothing you can do about it, except tell your S-6 to install the FULL version.

Another day in the Army. That's what you signed up for. I suggest you grab a straw and suck it up.

First? You are complaining, whether that is your intent or not.

Second, you are in the Army, not in the civilian world. The Army does not have have to give you squat of notice or representation until you are charged with something. You are living on the military's space. They own it, not you. Which means that they can walk in day or night at any hour and inspect it etc. Get used to it.

The MOST you can do is contact your first line supervisor and advise them of the situation and ask for lenience as far as a reporting time. Also, if there is something broken or missing when you get back in, you should document this with your your supervisor and the Unit that is in charge of that barracks where you are staying. The safe, as long as it is secure is safe... they will need to get the combination from you to open it.

You ARE complaining.
They will not kill you OR let you die without permission.
Suck it up. Drive on.
This isnt about YOU... until it is. Dont be "that guy"
If it wasnt hidden, it wouldn't have to be found.
What are you; an individual?
