You've been to military balls. Like me, you've seen a wide variety of ball gowns. What is an appropriate ball gown? What is not? Can you give or show example?

No. This is a military function not a strip club.

That one, definitely is not for a military ball. Sexy but conservative - but not sexy revealing and then gyrate on the dance floor like that. I understand women who work hard to stay in shape are proud of their accomplishment and want to show it off. However, there is always a right place and the right time to do so. A military ball - and your significant other in uniform is bad taste.

Disrespectful for both the function and the individual. Of course there are at least one who requires attention on themselves. Personally I would have both kicked out of the function and with at least a verbal counseling, documented to the military member.

Twerking and grinding on the dance floor is also inappropriate. They should never have been allowed past the receiving line.

An appropriate gown for any military function has to follow guidelines of common sense, class, taste and elegance. Take the gown shown above. This is a DO NOT WEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The gown style you should wear is one that leaves ALOT to the imagination of your date and other gentlemen in the room. Elegance/ettiquette dictates that as a rule of thumb. the slit should not go past the knee, fabric should be in accordance to the temperatures of the region where the event is held, and follow the guidelines of the military spouses/escorts unit.

As a veteran, I will attend my second ball this year. It is an honor-NOT a right-to attend these events. I will post pictures of what is appropriate in my opinion of what to wear or not to wear for the event of this magnitude.

when you marry a tramp expect a tramp. I not only served in the military, but I later married and O-6. Military decorum has always been of up-most importance to me. My father always said "a man wants a lady on his arm, and a whore in his bed" guess this couple didn't get the memo.

Chaplain, the woman depicted in the photo used is an embarrassment. I cannot believe that the officer's superior didn't order him to have his date change or leave. Even in a spirit of kindness that kind of attire is unacceptable.

Below is attached a photo of my wife and I at an Army Birthday Ball.
