What's a tasteful military ball gown?

that's inappropriate for any function unless you're going to a nightclub.unfortunately Not everybody gets it!I'm going to tell you truth he or she don't have respect for the military!!!

Depending on the "Theme" of the Ball.... she might have been wearing the correct gown, HOWEVER, her choice to "show" what she has was definitely in poor taste and should have been corrected when she was noticed to behave in this manner. From the appearance of the other gowns in the picture, i'm guessing the dress was not in relation to the "theme" of this ball. This dress would have been a good choice for the "Vegas Nights Ball" or the "Salsa Dancing Night" events.

Why are officers seemingly 10x more obsessed with appearance, rather than substance?

I am not certain I can quantify a tasteful military ball gown, however, I can say the one pictured isn't appropriate so I will give it a shot. An appropriate military ball gown does not draw undo attention. An appropriate military ball gown should not say "look at me" more than once and certainly not for more than 20 to 30 seconds. I agree with the CSM from Fort Stewart. I find it difficult to believe that person was allowed to enter the event much less stay long enough to dance. Unfortunately those of us in the Army with a sense of fashion and respect for others are faced with having to deal with the results of deminished recruiting standards. I suppose that comes with 15 years of war, but it doesn't have to. People want to be part of something exclusive. If the Army establishes a standard of education and appearance in recruits and maintains standards throughout training and within unit assignments situations such as the one pictured can be avoided or at least diminished. Had I been in attendance I would have been torn between quietly suggesting to the couple that her appearance was inappropriate and they should leave and simply inquiring as to the cost of hiring an escort to attend an evening such as that, because, truly, the only place you see someone dressed such as that is either a Hollywood awards event or an upscale gentlemen club.

What is appropriate? Not judging others is appropriate. We as a society need to be able to move on and accept that what the majority of you are calling "appropriate" are gowns some of the younger generation would find in their grandmother's closet. Get used to it folks, the older we get the more we cling to older styles and the more judgmental we get of our younger generations. Evolve.

I was a private and that gentleman was my commander...but that was not his spouse. Needless to say, his career ended shortly thereafter.

My limited experience with military balls leaves me with the impression that an appropriate gown would be more conservative since the military itself, at least in my opinion, is pretty conservative.

I find this very uncomfortable, it's not te club, or the street corner, it is "supposed" to be a formal function, dresses should be closed all the way around especially if you are going to "dance" like that. Utterly disgusting to me that this person represents someone in the military
