Hey there, fellow 56M!

Ft. Benning, in general, is very different depending on the section you're in. There are four main sections: Main Post, Harmony Church, Sand Hill, and Kelley Hill.

Main Post is the first part of Ft. Benning you'll experience. It's got the nicest parts of Ft. Benning, in my opinion. Post Headquarters is there, along with Soldier's Plaza (where you'll do the majority of your inprocessing), the Airborne School, and the Manuever Captain's Career Course (MCCC). If you want to see more Captains than you can shake a stick at, head over to Building 4! Also, 3rd Ranger Battalion and RSTB are on main post, behind "The Brown Fence". You'll know it when you see it.

Harmony Church is the new home of the Armor School. Tankers, Scouts, and Armor Officers do their Basic and MOS training here. You'll also find the Ranger Training Brigade, Air Assault course, and the Marine Tanker training area. Lots of training going on there.

Sand Hill is the long-standing Home of the Infantry. Basic and OSUT is conducted here, without exception.

And Kelley Hill, the oft-forgotten portion, is my Area of Operations. We're the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Sledgehammer! We're the only FORSCOM unit on Ft. Benning, and as such are mostly left to ourselves. We live in our own little world "On The Hill".

Do you have orders to the Garrison on Ft. Benning? I would be happy to provide a 56M's perspective on PCS'ing here. Most of my knowledge is current.

May consider looking here:

Or searching for and reaching out to members currently at Fort Benning for specifics.

Depends on the person...I've visited numerous times and it's grown over the past 5 years.

Nice post close to Atlanta and the surrounding area has its benefits.

I have looked at the websites but I don't know when it was last updated. I'd much rather get feedback from real people, so thank you!

Fort Benning is a nice post. Really hot in the summers though. They are one of the premier training posts in the nation, having both Infantry and Armor schools there. They also have Airborne, Air Assault, sniper school, ranger school, etc... So as far as Garrison goes, Benning is pretty top notch, with a lot of state of the art training facilities.

As for the surrounding area, Columbus has bad parts and good parts. The Downtown area is pretty nice.

What's FT. Benning's Garrison like?

Benning isn't too bad. Main post definitely feels "historic" and "old Army". Great gym, but if you hit rush hour going on or off post, expect a traffic jam. They've also really fixed up the training side too (Harmony Church). Which unit are you going to? Who you are with and what part of post you are on will affect a lot of things.

I'm saying to be very careful. Don't let your guard down. I was raped at jump school in 1985 along with 23 other women in a three month period of time.

Be careful.

Any post is going to be what you and your peers make it. Watch who you hang around with. Our CoC is great, just do your job and stay out of trouble.

I'm stationed here now and I was also in korea for my first duty station. I will say that there is plenty to do around here. And if you get tired of the pine trees and red clay, you can put in a pass and go to panama beach which is really close.

Just left 5-15 as a 1SG so you are going to a good group of leaders and a very good chaplain. You should enjoy your time with 5-15 and have the ability to touch a lot of Soldiers lives as they start their Army journey. Just like others have posted every installation is what you make of it. There is plenty to do, I recommend that you hit up white water rafting when it gets hot again. Hope you enjoy heat and humidity. Good luck.
