We've had some great conversations with the top handful of contributors. Very cool stuff. One of them does the security boardings on suspected drug traffickers. They get a bad rep. I loves the Coasties. Semper Paratus.

FN Charlie Spivey - Nowadays, prior duty go through the full Boot Camp experience unless they have some special qualifications that the CG is in high need of. Nearly half of my company was prior service; including a former Army Reserve officer.

PO2 Steven Hardy - Yeah, that was the point I was trying to make, but not too well.

It is an awesone life. I was an Army brat growing up near Ft. Bragg, NC and Coast Guard in my opinion was alot more close knit of a group. You get to do alot of things even as an E3 and you can go as far as your mind and want to will take you.

Worked with The USCG a few times and went out on their 110 footers for a couple days at a time over 6 weeks...
they were good to work with and they had an excellent support and logistics net...

When in Vietnam, we sorta adopted a Special Forces team that was sitting in the middle of the bad guys stomping grounds. Went through a lot of 5" stuff in that area as they were under attack almost every night. We were able to get them out to the ship on a Sunday and grill steaks on the fantail with homemade ( shipmade ) grills ( don't know where the charcoal came from ). We also opened up the Ship's Store so they could get what they needed. I had an uncle over there at the time with the 1st Cav, ( Air Mobile ). We also worked with the Navy. May have had some Air Force Spotters when doing Gun Fire Support missions, but I think most were Army.
