Military life is not always convenient for what we really want on a day-to-day basis. Whether it's four years or 20 years that you put off our heart's desire, be it hobbies or vacation or companions, what are you waiting to jump on at first chance?

I got pets, because I was never in a pet-friendly housing arrangement. My kitten is the sweetest tornado and my hedgehog hates me: Life is good.

I took my family to Disney World. Most of the time when I took leave, we just went back home to see family. So when I got out, I planned an actual vacation and it was honestly the best thing ever.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - It's a good time. If there was one thing I would recommend, it's their Memory Maker package. Basically it's an add-on that allows you to get pictures of your trip or certain rides. So all the parks have staff photographers. You and your family get your picture taken and they'll link the photos to your ticket. Some of the rides have it too, so instead of purchasing a photo at the end of the ride you'll scan your ticket and it'll be added to your account.

Not only do you have the potential to get a lot of photos, but you'll get stock photos of things you can't get pictures of normally depending on where you went.

For instance, my wife and I went on the Aerosmith rollercoaster. When we went to check our photos online, we had a bunch of photos of the Disney Cast "riding" the coaster. When we did the character encounters with my girls, we also got high quality individual shots of the characters we went to see.

You can look up more info on their website whenever you do your planning. But it was my 1st time bringing my family to Disney and personally I thought it was a worth the extra money. It's an extra 150 bucks if you purchase it ahead of time or 170 if you purchase the day of.

Cpl Justin Goolsby - Thanks for the info. I've been going to Disney since it opened in 1971. We try to go every year, but we haven't been since 2013. My wife is adamant about getting the Memory Maker add-on the next time we go.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - No problem. I used to go every couple years, but I haven't been since 2000 and the Memory Maker was a new thing for me when I took my own family for the 1st time and it definitely wasn't a disappointment so I always recommend it when I hear people planning a trip.

I got braces. The Army wouldn't let me get them because they were for cosmetic reasons.

Capt Tom Brown - I hated it when I was a kid. When I was in my early 20s I saw a dentist on Ft Gordon who refused to let me get braces despite the fact that I was assigned to a TRADOC unit. My company commander was on my side and even demanded a copy of the regulations. Per the regulations, I was not permitted braces. The dentist did come up with a compromise and permitted me to get bonding put on my front teeth to close up the gap.

After retirement, I fully intended on growing my hair long, growing a beard, and sleeping until noon.

Long hair sucks - I constantly had to groom it to keep it neat, so I cut it to a "just out of regs" length.
Some jerk replaced my black beard hairs with white ones - and I look like I am 80 with a beard, so I cut it.
I was able to sleep until noon for... a phreaking WEEK... then nature took over and I'm getting up at about 0630 every morning, whether I want to or not.

LTC Jason Mackay MCPO (Join to see) I think we need to put a BOLO out for this individual. I made it 3 weeks just mainly to see what id look like. My chin is pure white and I swear to god I've got pinstripes going down the sides....someone has a sick sense of humor. Hair length..didn't make it 2 weeks. I'm just right outside regs. Same ind also seen fit to reward me with a immense amount of "white" on the sides and 1 small patch just off centered of he top of my head. Sleep wise I'm up at 0430 every morning. Don't sleep much anyway, but nothing has changed...:(. VA wants to put me on pills to help me sleep. Told them no thanks.
