I spend time with friends, I keep busy working out in the gym and I spend time kayaking. But the biggest way I prioritize my mental health is by making sure I keep my appointments with DR. King at James A. Haley mental health services. We have a close honest relationship and discuss my mental state stays positive.

I am seventy three years of age, a retired Master Sergeant of Marines. After I retired I went to Federal Law Enforcement then retired again in 2009. I keep busy in my workshop building things for my lovely wife of Forty years. When I am not building something I am either working on the property or fishing. There's always something to do and that's the way I like it. Going from two on the go careers and adjusting to retirement wasn't easy at first but I believe keeping busy doing constructive things and living your retirement is what will keep you alive. Did I mention my wife and I travel alot and go on cruises often. So, live your retirement don't vegetate.

Creating protected time to relax, it’s important to disconnect from work and stress and connect with family and friends.

I remember to be grateful, every wake-up.

I keep my feelings separate from my reasoning.

I do my best to check in with what I happen to be feeling at any given time and
even more so when a strong feeling comes up;
so that I can look at why I'm feeling that way so I can keep a handle on my own responses,
if any response is even necessary.

I also remember to not take someone else's bad moment personally.

Life is a gift that comes with freewill so, we as individuals get to decide how we are going to feel.
The daily challenges, that we all face, are put in front of us to learn from.
It's not always pleasant but, there is always something positive to be gained.

Attitude is everything and we each get to choose what that attitude will be.

I try to remain chill and not let things get to me but when I do start feeling the effects of stress i try to take a few minutes to immerse myself in my favorite music for a while.
