I remember that the military was only part of my life and doesn't define who I am. Mental health is like grass and needs nourishment to thrive. My grandkids are my rewards for staying alive and I enjoy spoiling them when I can.

Volunteerism has kept me active and alert. Community participation with Civil Air Patrol, and hunter education.

I go rollerblading. Usually with my dogs and listening to music. Moving helps my mind get away from any dark thoughts and I get to enjoy the nice days.

What I do to prioritize my mental health is to categorize my m.h. diagnoses, then I start with the first one. I ask myself how I feel today, if good, why do I feel positive and list those things. If not good, why do I feel negative and what I can do to change it around. I go through all categories and anything negative I work on them to turn them into a positive. When done I make sure that I do my best to keep them on a positive track.

I pay attention to what I'm thinking about and refuse to dwell on things I can't control, instead choosing to focus on things I do have control over.

I sing in several choirs at church and in the community. My rallying cry to get me going on a cold or especially dark night is that we are bringing beauty to a world that needs it badly. Making friends doesn't hurt, either.

Some things I do to prioritize my mental health are checking on myself. Ensuring that all my needs are meet if possible. I will try and exercise or just get some mobility in my daily routine. If I encounter an issue or problems that I can't solve I will get help. I will stop catering to everyone's needs by being a yes person. Sometimes I will have to say no. I will take time and meditate. I will also, stop criticizing myself.
