After getting injured in service took me awhile to reach out for help. After seeking help and being able to explain to my wife about my PTSD it made things easier. For me sitting down and getting on the Xbox game system and playing some destiny to escape my thoughts has helped me center and control my PTSD the best. Without having the support of my wife none of it would be possible.

Keep yourself productive and busy, while also taking time to relax and focus on your priorities. That's what I've been doing since I've returned a few months ago from some deployments overseas. It's helped me get back to normal life and stop missing my overseas time too much. If you have not visited the middle east yet, please do so one day. It's eye-opening and beyond fascinating.

Not be afraid to ask for help from VA mental health or civilian crisis line. There is no shame in asking for help!

I used wind therapy on one of my motorcycles to recharge prior to retirement, and now I just enjoy riding.

I meditate for 30 minutes per day using the body scan method. It clears my mind and rejuvenates my energy levels. Way more effective than napping…highly recommend! Feel free to reach out if you want tips to get started

I’ve prioritized cannabis consumption to help with many of my mental health issues. This method does not work for everybody but it doesn’t hurt to try.

I set aside time each morning to reflect and stretch before beginning my day.

First of all I stopped using alcohol as a coping method and realized they did not fix my issues but only created more. Then I enrolled into the VA STAR (substance treatment and recovery) program and I have been working with a therapist from there and just meeting with her weekly has changed my prospective on my mental health and I cannot say enough good things about they program and what's it's done for me.

I give of my time to helping Veterans and their families by directing to the people they need to talk to. I also assist the military with supplying Chaplains , firing detail’s, & buglers for military Final Honors. Over seven thousand to date. I am also involved with several VSO’s as an officer or active member. My wife helps me put on a full dinner every month for my AL post and other activities.
