Never ask someone to do something that you wouldn't do. Lead by example.

Show gratitude. Never underestimate the importance of the words 'please' and 'thank you'.

Sorry, but please and thank you don't enter the conversation when issuing orders. Reserve those words for appropriate situations, like "Pass me that CLP, please."

..."Be the leader you would want leading you" this was told to me early on in my years of managing and leading people and it still speaks truth today.

ALWAYS BE FAIR, TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED. MY DAD ALWAYS SAID IT COST NOTHEING TO BE NICE.. WHEN I WAS IN AIRMAN 1ST WAS HARD BECAUSE WE WERE SHIFT LEADERS WITH A LOT OF RESPONSIBILITY AND LONG HOURS. IN THE FAR EAST DURING VIETNAM TIMES MEANT STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE EARLY ON AND TAKING THE LEAD. VERY REWARDING IN THE LONG RUN THOUGH.

As long as you are not lazy, you'll be a good leader- at the same time, take care of yourself and your family and don't burn out.
