The most important question you should ask yourself is "Do you like your job"? I was a taker for 27 years. Loved the job, but it didn't have a civilian equivalent. If you see yourself making a career in the Army, follow your heart. If you aren't a lifer follow your head and select a job with transferable skills.

SFC James Kebbel I do like my job, conditions could be better but I do like being a 92Y. Logistics have civilian equivalents so, if I could add some technical schools, that would be awesome.

CID is worth looking into. They have a bonus and excellent room for advancement. You really can't go wrong with any of the packet MOS'. Personally my favorite part of CID is working with other soldiers who want to be there and enjoy doing their job. Everyone I work with is actively trying to advance whether in their college or military career.

Yes it's very interesting. Even within CID you have opportunities to do very different jobs.Anything specific you would like to know?

Reclassing to regular Army MOS's is pretty difficult right now. If you are into computers look into 17C or 25D very hot jobs right now but the packet for them is a beast. MI, Psyops ,Civil Affairs are good jobs to get into also, TONS of opportunities for unique training, assignments and missions. Basically what I'm saying is these "packet" MOS's or "small" Army jobs are the way to go.

SSG (Join to see) I've been looking for options like the ones you mentioned, I need to be SGT for having better chances of being chosen.

If you annoy them enough with contently putting in a packet they may at least consider you, lol. Another thing to look at is maybe trying to get into one of those units as a 92Y, again more training, assignment and mission opportunities. You can look at Ranger Regiment, 160th SOAR (Special Operation Air Regiment) or WHCA ( White House Communications Agency)

SSG (Join to see) you are not the first one to mention me WHCA, that would be something awesome.

1. Make sure its something you love to do, life is easier that way.
2. If you cant get what you love to do, then ensure that if you get hurt and have to leave the military you are in a MOS that will benefit you.
3. 25D is the hot MOS right now.

CW2 (Join to see) my wife wanted me to reclass to 17C, but I got to be honest with her and tell her that I don't see myself suck in front of a computer the whole day. I'm glad that I can get feedback directly from the source and ask any walking Soldier around how do they like being 17C. I've got pretty good insight of their tasks and going from 92Y to Cyber would be a huge change. Let's see what decision we make...

I would stay away from 25D, the Signal Corps rushed to failure on that one. And the discussion on that is a whole other topic of discussion. 17C might be a good option. It is a packet application though. Of all the applicants in the local Cyber Center, only 1 was selected for a seat in the next class. And that kid is insanely smart with code and computers. If you get selected, be ready to never leave the east coast. Also, get very used to being in a building with no windows for about 12 hours at a time.
Some one on here said it, look at the numbers and the promotion rates. look for something that you can enjoy doing as a career or something that makes you more marketable if you pull hitch. If you are looking at a technical field, also look at the Warrant path for that filed...Because if you are gonna reclass to be a technician, then go the extra step and actually be the SME technician.

MSG (Join to see) other thing that holds me from reclassing to 17C is that, I would stay here. The bonus is offered just to my BN so, I'm looking for some diversity in my career, being 5 years in the same unit doesn't look diversified to me.
I was talking with a 25B and he told me that, because of his clearance, he's been stationed from MI to Mi for the last 6 years. I'm not sure if that's something I want...

There is a little truth to what the 25B said. But I know plenty of folks with clearance that have not stayed in MI units. And, at some point you should have promoted yourself out of being able to stay in those units.
By and Large I would stay away from the Signal MOSs. The Signal Corps is caught in an awkward position of still having to prove its relevancy to the warfighter and proving its relevancy in the Cyber fight to DOD. It is loosing both fights. The Signal corps has lost a tremendous amount of positions in the force, and the ones that remain have faced grade plate reductions. Of all the MOSs in the Signal Corps, if I could reclass to one of them, I would pick 25C. Good promotions, Great assignments, and never a dull moment, and most units you will go too are in the fight.
As the saying goes on the Bones table, not all money is good money. A bonus is nice, but not at the expense of being in a dead end or miserable MOS. Again, think about what you really want to do for the next 20 years of your life. Or, think about a job that will help you get the civilian job you want for the next 20 years of your life.

MSG (Join to see) money is not my motivation, I want a MOS that could offer me career progression, not necessarily 7 in 7, but at a good pace. 92F have a $13k bonus for +2 years, I told my Retention, thanks but I'll pass that one. I think that I will take advantage of the fact that, every single unit in this Army needs a Supply guy. If my clearance helps me to get better assignments, then so be it. But I'm not fixing to be in for 12 years and get just to SGT because promotion points are maxed out like 25B.

SFC (Join to see) diversity and career progression, I've seen so many 25B stuck and at my age, 33, I can't make that mistake. Because of my clearance, everybody keeps telling me that I'll be jumping from MI to MI and I really hope I don't.

I agree with LTC Hull, of you don't enjoy what you will be doing you will be unhappy and may not last. And some day you will get out and want it to translate into usable skills. That being said, look to the understrength MOS with low promotion points. It all depends on what you want to do, cyber, logistics, intelligence, engineer. Look within yourself- what are you passionate about? Pursue that, then you will be happy at work, most of the time anyways....

while you're young do tour of something like airborne status, the 82d has variety of the support MOS's, while a medic in the Avn Bn, one of the female clerks transferred to the medical plt, and went to FT Sam Houston to reclass, she said that as a woman from the 82d, she was treated like a visiting 2- star

Two questions: have you completed WLC? If you have, then I'd consider Drill Sergeant Academy (00G series)

1SG Michael Blount I just made SPC in January, with the new system I have to go the board first and then BLC, that won't happen until June at least. So I have to hang in there until they send me. But I'm lean more to career counselor than to DS.

@SPC Antonio Camacho - That's an admirable COA Downside is career progression isn't very fast.

Here's one no one mentioned. One of the higher paying jobs outside of the military is prime power. I can't speak to the promotion status now, but when I worked with them in Iraq they loved it, and they were smart guys. If you're going to make a move, make one that will get you paid on the outside. Get your education now! There will never be a good time, so don't wait on your civilian education. You will be surprised at how well you can do, so aim for a quality school that has a resident campus, but offers the same degrees through distance education. It's the new university business model. You would be shocked, some very reputable schools like the University of Alabama, East Carolina University, U of Florida etc etc.
There's Army Special Operations branches; SF, CA, and PSYOP. Those jobs are ramping up. Promotions are fast. Bonuses are high. You'll learn a language, travel the world, learn a vast number of skills that easily translate to high paying contracting jobs doing the same type of work. ARSOF isn't cutting at all. Those jobs are only increasing in demand.
