Oil & Gas...work for one of the majors...started out as a roughneck...now almost 8 yrs later moved into Health, Environment & Safety. With a great set of benefits and opportunities even in our price environment of low oil.

Just obtained a new position as a Professional Service Coordinator, which is a national certification. I am working with three HUD programs in Fairbanks, Alaska. I plan to move in 3-5 years to another PSC position in Washington state area.

I an am avid volunteer in my community and know all the non profits in my area. You can google Professional Service Coordinator for information. It requires a course from Ohio University and national exam to obtain. It is coordination, case management of HUD housing programs. There is a list of vacancies nationally listed can apply for once certified. I have been a care coordinator, am a certified drug and alcohol counselor so was hired and have to complete the course, exam and maintain certification with CEUs each year just like my CDC1.

I was looking for work, but couldn't get hired. As it turns out that is okay, because I am still haunted by chronic debilitating headaches...
Not to many want to hire a over 50 Disabled veteran, especially with a electronics background!

I am currently employed but looking desperately for a new job. My current position has been a career killer and I would like to salvage what I can before it's to late, if it's not already.

Looked at the website and the challenge continues. I work in site support, there seems to be a shortage of jobs for IT folks. My AFSC when I was active was 49171 - Communications/Computer Operations Supervisor. Between my ancient military experience and 22 years civilian experience my AFSC would translate to 3D0X2 - Cyber Systems Operations or 3D1X2 - Cyber Transport Systems. In my experience, a huge portion of jobs I would be qualified to do are being outsourced to overseas (India) companies and people like me are finding themselves unemployed with skills no one wants. Why anyone would get into anything IT related in a mystery to me.

And, like Sgt Thomas Lucken mentioned, seems no one wants to hire someone over 50. Guess experience and maturity don't mean anything nowadays.

Terminated in June 2013 after 20 years based on a company wide review just before the Affordable Care Act was going into effect. My disabilities and effects of my medicines had reduced my ability to travel and negotiate stairs.
