There are a ton of great songs about military life, that reference the military in some way; some of the more modern works may have a video associated with it, and some of the older classics continue to define the military experience to this day. From country to rock, ballads & pop, to more traditional flavors--did a particular song inspire, educate, or simply strike a chord with you? Please feel free to share any inspiring military-related music, any music or songs that makes you think of/or reminds you of your military service, as well as any links, photos, descriptions or anything that helps you tell your story. The idea here is to have a fun and thought provoking discussion, which will be fun, informative, and provide a means to tell our stories... and to learn about one another as well as our sister services in the process. Wishing you all the best, I look forward to hearing from you, and interacting with you all in the threads!

SSG Ricciardelli, I hadn't seen this video or heard the song before, great choice; it's great to hear all of the awesome patriotic songs out there, this one is particularly well done... thanks so much for sharing!

There is an old song that has been around for many years. I like the Johnny Horton song "Sink The Bismark." There are a lot of current songs, mostly on the country charts that honor service. But one of the best is Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All."

I'm surprised no one's posted any of the RedCon-1 Music Groups songs.

They're a music label made up of Veterans, almost all rap but it's good and they do Veteran's Outreach.  My favorite 2 songs is from their founder (Soldier Hard):

Soldier Hard - Triggers (PTSD Awareness):

Soldier Hard - Red Flags (Veteran's Suicide Awareness):

Without a doubt the best song to get you pumped for doing something awesome is THUNDERSTRUCK!  If you don't at least appreciate "Acca Dacca" as our allies from down under call them, you should seek another line of work.

I have three favorites (not sure if this first qualifies as a military song or not).

1. Star Spangled Banner

2. Army Song

3. Marine Hymn

For less formal occasions, like PT, there are two "must haves"

1. Warrior's Song - Hard Corps

2. Warrior's Song - Army

If you're not stoked after listening to either of those, stop what you're doing and check your motivation

This one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTs6a0ORdQU

or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sam4lq2WHos

Both can be downloaded on iTunes

Another mission the powers have called me away
Another time to carry the colors again
My motivation an oath I've sworn to defend
To win the honor of coming back home again
No explanation will matter after we begin
Unlock the dark destroyer that's buried within
My true vocation and now my unfortunate friend
You will discover a war you're unable to win

I'll have you know
That I've become
Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side a terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while you're alive
I'm an indestructible
Master of war

Another reason another cause for me to fight
Another fuse uncovered now for me to light
My dedication to all that I've sworn to protect
I carry out my orders without a regret
My declaration embedded deep under my skin
A permanent reminder of how it began
No hesitation when I am commanded to strike
You need to know that you're in for the fight of your life

You will be shown
How I've become
Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side a terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while your alive
I'm an indestructible
Master of war

I'm
Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side a terror to behold
Annihilation will be unavoidable
Every broken enemy will know
That their opponent had to be invincible
Take a last look around while your alive
I am indestructible
Indestructible

Indestructible
Determination that is incorruptible
From the other side a terror to behold

I'm an indestructible

HATEBREED - AS DIEHARD AS THEY COME

In the words of Jamey Jasta himself: "I believe that you need to follow your heart and do whatever it is that you are passionate about no matter what anyone says. For those who have done so and been criticized and demonized this is for you. For all the servicemen and women who have lost their lives defending our freedoms this is for you and most importantly of all our fans!"

Most people can't get into hardcore/thrash, but the message in this style of music is usually deeper than anything else out there. It's definitely an acquired taste, and you'll either love it, or hate it. If you've never worked out listening to Hatebreed, you don't know what you're missing. Pure, raw, power.

Lyrics:

Some of us have had that fateful day

When harmony fades and life stands still

Those who were willing to sacrifice

Were blessed with the instinct to survive

This is for those who've escaped the torment

You know real courage

You are as diehard as they come

This is for those who never wavered

You are fearless

You are as diehard as they come

You are as diehard as they come

You are as diehard as they come

You are as diehard as they come

Never waiver, never falter- REMAIN DIEHARD

A great song and awesome video tribute, this was just way too good not to share, and definitely has an honored spot in this thread; below is the direct link to the video as well as the original post where it was shared here on RallyPoint... thanks SFC Markley!

I just happened to watch the tribute by Rylee as I was getting links for some of my favorites.  I hadn't seen it before.  I think it is an amazing tribute.
