There are a ton of great songs about military life, that reference the military in some way; some of the more modern works may have a video associated with it, and some of the older classics continue to define the military experience to this day. From country to rock, ballads & pop, to more traditional flavors--did a particular song inspire, educate, or simply strike a chord with you? Please feel free to share any inspiring military-related music, any music or songs that makes you think of/or reminds you of your military service, as well as any links, photos, descriptions or anything that helps you tell your story. The idea here is to have a fun and thought provoking discussion, which will be fun, informative, and provide a means to tell our stories... and to learn about one another as well as our sister services in the process. Wishing you all the best, I look forward to hearing from you, and interacting with you all in the threads!

Indestructible by Disturbed.....something about it just fires me up and it is definitely written from the Warrior POV.

I got to see Drowning Pool perform for Balad Air Base/LSA Anaconda, it was awesome! RIP Dave Williams (former Lead Singer, who is in the video for 'Let the Bodies Hit the Floor').

Not really military songs persay, but these were the first 3 songs I played on my tank as we crossed into Iraq in '03: "Seek and Destroy"-Metallica, "Flirtin' WIth Disaster"-Molly Hatchet and "Stranglehold"-Ted Nugent, got my crew's blood pumpin and kept us motivated!

I'm not sure you'd actually call it a military song, it has no lyrics, but I still can't helped but be moved every time I hear "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copeland. I believe that the Marines actually used it in one of their recruitment ads.

I played Fanfare for the Common Man in Band when I was in High School. A very good song by a great American Composer.

I'm not sure if you can actually call it a true military song, there are no lyrics for starters, but whenever I hear "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Arron Copeland I can help but be moved. I believe that the Marines actually used it in one of their recruiting spots.

I submit for everyone's approval a song that wouldn't traditionally be considered a "military song", but none the less it was the favorite song of my platoon while on West Pac. While we were sailing across the Indian Ocean, after PTing and finally having our shower time we heard from a nearby berthing area an offensive sound playing. Someone from another platoon was playing late 90's boy band pop music.

While preparing to shower we heard this and decided to counter it with the only song our entire platoon and our friends from the platoon that the offending music was coming from. We started singing the live version of "Garth Brooks Friends in Low Places" (the live version because we included the mysterious 3rd verse). That sing a long was one of the lingering memories of the deployment and with some of our misadventures it was fitting.

Thanks for sharing, I think that there are those great times that are associated with a particular song, and although it may not be necessarily a military song by definition, it still holds strong memories and positive associations.  I have a song list from a conditioning hike that I'll share as soon as I can find it, some songs were about the military, some maybe not so much, but having our officially unofficial 'jam box' 550-corded to the back of a HMMWV with tunes blasting, was a great motivator for everyone, and it sure does bring back some great memories. I'm certain that when anyone hears one of those songs, they immediately associate it with that time... great times indeed, thanks so much for sharing... great choice and great story!

Major Burns, on our WestPac, we had our sound system blaring where ever we went, We even had it playing when we escorted the lowboys carrying our platoon's M1A1s through Qatar to the training area. It was a long trip especially since they had a 30 KM speed limit on the roads.

Cpl Fernandez, thanks for posting, great story, it brought to mind one of my favorite scenes from one of my all time favorite movies... this is the Air Cav strike set to "Ride of the Valkyries." Again, great story "Crazy Ray," thanks for sharing!
