When I was young, my Dad took us to Taconic State Park (Copake Falls, NY). On occasion, we would go around the "back side" of the park (actually a separate state park in MA) to see Bash Bish Falls. Usually went to the bottom but one went to the top. Great view!

In 2018, or so, I had the occasion to go back. Just as I recalled (though I did not go back to Bash Bish Falls). Many fond memories!

Currently, I live in the LA Metro area (near Long Beach; it's so close that I can walk to it). LA is known for many things to see; people spend a great deal of money to get here and stay here (hotel, etc.). I can visit practically for free. I guess LA is one of my favorite places to see.

Utah/Arizona, the Vermilion Cliffs/Grand Staircase Escalante area. WAY off the beaten path in the empty country north of the Grand Canyon. Grand scenery on BLM and Forest Service land so you can camp about anywhere you want to pull over. However, be careful, you are so far out in some of those places a wrecker bill can run two grand or more. And it's hot in the summer, spring and fall are far better.

Been there twice. Escalante is most of S. Utah, Love Bryce, Paria Toadstools(beware quicksand), Capitol Reef. Too hot for "The Wave"-long line at Kanab BLM. Found stranded cars along Cottonwood Canyon Rd. Fun drive, use 4 wheel drive. Kodachrome SP awaits to the north. N. Rim of Grand Canyon is below Kanab, Zion to the west. Good place to stay. center of most sights.

SPC Richard Levine - Gotta love that area, right? The 4Runner treads lightly through it all. When the Wave is maxed out for the day and they are letting no people in, try White Pocket, as good but a longer drive.

YES! On line, they gave 2 permits a day. At The BLM door at 9am, maybe 8? I rented a Jeep, Ghost towns from movies & watch out for cattle in the creeks.
