Watch an episode of "The View" lets me know I'm not as messed up as I thought.

I use a tried-and-true method that works for me. I get on my motorcycle, with the wife, and we point the motorcycle in a general direction, and we ride. We have intercoms on the bike, so we chat and ride. This allows us to decompress from time to time, we get some good needed alone time to boot. The freedom of the open road and the talking allows us both to reset mentally. We may ride for a few hours or go on an overnight trip, just to completely disconnect from anything that may be an issue at home. The ride and the conversations help keep us both focused on the main thing to us, and that is our time together, not a care in the world. Just the two of us together, chatting and riding, nothing else to worry about as we cruise to points unknown.

When Im really struggling I like to reset by spending time in my bible is helpful.
Also, a massage, acupuncture, or yoga tends to reset my mental health.

I also get great reset when reading and meditating on scripture. I receive a couple of great daily readings sent to my email, it’s amazing how many times the focus is on exactly what I’ve been working on in my healing. It’s like getting personal affirmations from God, and that I am not alone

I lay on the floor on a yoga mat and my 2 cats lay next to me making sure they are touching me. Their touch grounds me, helps me focus on how my body is feeling which brings me back to the present. This diverts my attention away from my mind and helps calm the storm.

I’m so glad you mentioned this! I recently rescued two twin boy kittens. My therapist felt it would be very beneficial for me and my household. I cannot believe what a difference it has made. Changed the entire energy in our home. It’s amazing how just hearing their purr feels transforming and alters my mental state and my mood!

My go-to method for a mental health reset is to drive down to a local park that has a walking trail around a lake. I'll put headphones on playing a motivational video/audio and just walk the trail taking in good vibes, great water views, and sunlight to help put my sorrows aside while absorbing the greatness of nature and the healing power of God.

Well, honestly - first I have to check in and make sure it's a mental health reset I need or maybe it's a glass of water or maybe a nap. Once I take that inventory, I give myself permission to have that respite, as long as it's healthy and what my body needs, not wants, self-discipline seemingly being the biggest thing that escapes me when I am in a triggered state. Speaking of triggered state, if I then recognize that I am triggered and need some self-care, those tools include box breathing, I've called the VA helpline, meditation audio while I take a power nap though is usually my go-to.

The VA helpline has been an incredible resource for me as well. They are so well trained and compassionate. And they always manage to eventually get me refocused on what tools have worked for me before. First they listen, empathize, then guide me back to practical, true, thinking. Big blessing. And it is not just for suicidal moments, just any time I feel in crisis or overwhelmed. I highly recommend this service provided for us!

My wife. She is a massage therapist and studies how massage therapy can help veterans with ptsd like me.
