As an adult, this probably sounds silly, but I find my "reset" in doing a Legos set. If I don't have a new set to work on, I will undo and work on an old one since I keep the "how to" books. There are times when a simple hug from my dog or cat does WONDERS for my mental health!

I go to the Bible for help, especially the Psalms, and read God's promises of love, hope, and care. "Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." (Ps 32:7-8). Then I pray and tell God about all my problems, worries, troubles, things I did right, things I did wrong, things I don't understand, things i don't know what to do about -all good and bad- then I ask for guidance, help, and peace. I also thank God for loving me and taking care of me.

I make sure I’m eating real food, I drink more water, and I do some yoga. If that doesn’t work, I try to get a kid-free night with my husband or best friend so I can talk through what I’m feeling, play games, or just do something to unwind.

I go for an early morning run and get my favorite breakfast- a coffee is a must. This gives me time to myself to think, the endorphins and serotonin from the run, and comfort food and drink.

I get into the woods for a few days. I’m a hiker/backpacker. I have a group of like-minded old farts that like to do the same. Sometimes we hiked just a few miles in to camp and sometimes we have a destination in mind and will hike up to about 20 miles in a day. Getting away from it all helps clear the head.

I used to really enjoy running with headphones for music. Lately I’ve been getting back into trail running (without music). Running without the added stimuli gives me a mental escape and a break from the constant stream of information and technology we often encounter in our daily lives. The quiet time gives me a chance to process thoughts and emotions.
