I have a few things that help; long bike rides, working on project vehicles, video games, spending time with my son and wife. I have found that having more than one way to destress and reset is best. not every activity works every time.

When I am able from physical pain, I go for a walk in the mornings or evenings and take in the scenery and the wildlife and trees. If I can’t practice that, I dim the lights, relax to meditative music, and apply a scented oil that relaxes me. Cinnamon and Sandalwood I’ve found calms me. I’m part of the population of people that lavender does the opposite effect of calming and relaxation. For me, it actually triggers anger and stirs up negative energy. Fascinating stuff our senses. Helps me out of the fog.

I take my frustrations and stress out on the road. Sometimes that looks like a car ride, bike ride, and a long run. There’s something about getting outside, taking in some sun light, feeling the breeze, that makes the problems become smaller and easier to manage. Getting away from the place where issue came up gives me the space to clear my head and help mentally reset.

Yoga, followed with meditation, Journaling, then (if not already) cuddling a furry child.

Reading my sci-fi/fantasy book mostly. A long, hot shower sometimes. The spouse is my anchor usually.

2 hours by the pool with a good book then a quick yoga session followed by mindful meditation.

I hit the trails. I used to run, but now I mostly hike. Getting outside clears my mind and puts things in perspective. Even if I don’t find an answer to my questions at least the issues seem more manageable once nature has helped me forget them for a while.
