President Trump has mentioned about creating a sixth military branch to solely focus on space defense and deal with extraterrestrials. What’s your take on it and will it be successful?

MOS 69R: spaceship door gunner. Now accepting recruits.
That said, the President says a lot of stuff straight out of left field. How’s it going, getting Mexico to fork over $20 billion for a border wall, for example?
There are a lot of hoops to jump through before the Space Force becomes a thing. I don’t think we have to worry about it happening.

MAJ (Join to see) - hey fella, I don’t need to google them, as I know that they are Army career paths, I think titled Army Astronaut and Army Space Operations. (If those aren’t the exact names, forgive me for not googling).
So I’ll restate, “How’s it going, getting Mexico to fork over $20 billion for a border wall, for example?

I don’t think Mexico is making too many monthly installments for the wall, and I don’t think we have to worry about a separate branch, Space Force, being created. I notice that despite your comment, you neglected to answer those questions.
Having some astronaut MOSs, as do the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, is hardly the first step to creating a space force, considering the military has traditionally supplied the astronaut corps with many of its members.
Great comment, though, champ.

I think it depends on (1) what's the purpose, (2) what's the end goal? (3) Will I accomplish what cannot be accomplished now? (If it's to deal with extraterrestials, then that's not top priority right now is it? LOL), and (4) What are the pitfalls and unintended consequences that can keep me from attaining my goal?. As with any reorganization, if you just go into anything this big without understanding all that, you just make bureaucracy worse, and don't necessarily solve anything. And of course--how. Easy to wave your hand over something and proclaim it, another to really think it through and how it could improve the situation. I've seen it done so many times.

I think the air force should manage it As part of Air Force and that each branch will have a branch component element similar to diving being managed by navy commandant, airborne -parachuting managed by army etc. Air Force should run space command. We don’t need another branch, please no new branches

MAJ (Join to see) Guess my point is there are already outstanding service members that have the capability of handling this. Do we need an entire branch of service? In my humble opinion....No.

I don't believe in extraterrestrials. I think the whole thing is ridiculous and a waste of money that can be better used here on Earth in this country!!

Trump said at first he wasn’t serious when he floated the concept, but “then I said what a great idea, maybe we’ll have to do that.” So, we can see that he put a lot of thought into it...and because Congress has to buy into it and fund it, I do not seeing it come to fruition anytime soon.

We do not need another force, we need to do away with all the different service branches. Every time something changes they create another flag billet, with that comes and SES, four or five O-6s non of which to any real work just cause hate and discontent among the working class. And once the exist no one, not even Congress, can get rid of them. Just look at the two star at Wilford hall. By law (BRAC) that redundant command structure was supposed to go away and merge into the San Antonio Medical Center (SAMC) but to this day you still have BAMC and Willford Hall, a complete waste.

I think most people have a mistaken idea of what the Space Force really entails. Consider how much of our high tech navigation and targeting rely on space based assets to function and then consider that all three major services have their own section dealing with those assets differently. The basic idea is to eliminate duplication of efforts, standardize the equipment and make it the sole responsibility of it's own command structure. So instead of thinking Star Wars, think Unified Commands like we formed after Grenada, or probably a better example, SOCOM.
