In 2008, fresh back from a 15 month deployment in the 82nd Airborne... we had a Brigade formation the week before the Thanksgiving 4 day weekend. We were about to start a BDE run, so all units were in formation. Not only did the BDE CDR say that he was extending our 4 day to a 10 day with no leave to be charged... he called ZONK!!!!!!! haha It was pure chaos as thousands of Soldiers were sprinting in every direction back towards their units. I have not seen so many people go crazy on Fort Bragg at once in my life until then.

As well he should be, better to have left the training schedule alone and not shown up.

My dad told me a story of a mock combat exercise that he was made the leader in on one of the teams. He told his men to stay in their fox holes or he would shoot them himself (simulation guns old school style) and there was that ONE guy that decided that he was bored and got out of his hole.....he learned what friendly fire was, because my dad shot him! The higher up that they answered to at the time (I forget the rank its been years since he told me this story) sided with my dad. They loved his style AND the guy that got shot learned not to crawl out of his hole.
Another time a bomb team was called to one of the jeeps (where my dad and several others were training) because of two batteries taped to a spray can, yup old school style way to keep the batteries but someone literally freaked out over it!
