What should happen to Brian Williams after lying about coming under fire?

He should be branded as a liar. Oh.... mission accomplished.

Two steps away from stolen valor.

Be demoted to NBC Nightly janitor.

Nothing. He may be an ambassador to journalistic integrity, but he's not ex-military, and therefore, not bound to the same value sets that we military personnel are held accountable to.

Each time he's interviewed/reporting in the future, a message should run on the screen below "The statements of Brian Williams are his own, and do not necessarily reflect the views of this network, our sponsors, actual events or any form of the truth for that matter..." It's one thing to want to be able to relate to somebody else's experiences, it's quite another to fabricate stories related to this particular subject to try to create "street cred."

He will pay in the coin most precious to him, public approbation. Regardless of whether NBC allows him to sit the anchor chair again, his public persona is forever tarnished. In an field where personal integrity, in the vein of Murrow and Cronkite, he will be held as an example of hubris for future generations of journalism students.
