I accept his apology, personally -- but what he did was pretty disrespectful IMO. I don't know how you can say your bird got hit with an RPG, and then say you were mistaken and that it was a different bird that got hit.

I understand that 12 years have passed since the incident occurred...but all I'm saying is that I would expect a person to remember if they were in the bird that got RPG'd or if it was a different bird. That should be black and white to remember after 30 years, let alone 12.

Again, I accept his apology personally and think we should all move on since there are bigger issues at hand for the military community at large.

Cpl Jerry Millar, I would agree with you if that was all it was. Unfortunately he was still telling this story on air as recently as 2013. Not to mention, the soldiers that busted him said he didn't even arrive in the area until an hour after the incident.

From Stars & Stripes:
The admission came after crew members on the 159th Aviation Regiment’s Chinook that was hit by two rockets and small arms fire told Stars and Stripes that the NBC anchor was nowhere near that aircraft or two other Chinooks flying in the formation that took fire. Williams arrived in the area about an hour later on another helicopter after the other three had made an emergency landing, the crew members said.

LTJG Perry Haman, Honestly I cannot keep up with all the outlets that are covering, recovering, stating, and restating the story. My opinion is based on the pilot of his bird saying that they did in fact take on small arms fire and another bird in their immediate formation was hit with an RPG.

Regardless of what hit his bird, he was in a war zone and hit with fire. We could debate the details and semantics for weeks (and it seems we will), but to me it just does not seem like that big of a deal. He is not trying to claim a medal or write a memoir for profit so who really cares? Again that is just my opinion and in full disclosure; I once tried out for a semi-pro hockey team and listed my height with my skates on and added 5lbs to my stats :)

I feel better now that I have confessed, thank goodness I did not make it to the pros or my life's integrity would be questioned on ESPN for a week straight haha

Cpl Jerry Millar Haha, totally understand where you're coming from. Former hockey player myself, although nowhere near your level. That's not padding stats, that's keeping pace with the competition, haha. I agree with you and I'm not trying to argue semantics, just pointing out that there is definitely a lot of conflicting info and misinformation in the early stages of news reporting on any event. And therein lies the rub.

CNN, Politico, and a couple others were so eager to back up their buddy Brian Williams that they threw some story out there from a supposedly reputable source, which has now also been proven false, and is making Williams look even worse. That pilot you're referring to has now been shown to NOT be the pilot of the Chinook that Williams was on. CNN and Politico are now having to walk back their stories, since multiple people have proven that Williams' aircraft took zero fire whatsoever. If he had just said "Hey, I f'ed up, and I'm sorry. I feel really ashamed that I misled everyone and I'll work as hard as I can to regain your trust" it would have been a whole different ball game.

Well then BW is on his own; if he didn't even take on fire, then he is due the scutiny that is being thrown his way!

Makes me think of the Al Pocino line from Glengarry Glen Ross, "[A]laways tell truth, George; it's the easiest thing to remember."

Nothing, once a man looses his reputation and his character is exposed for all to see, it's tragic. It would not wish this on a dog, let alone a human being. And I'm a Rock Ribbed Ronaldus Magnus Reagan Conservative, brothers!

Nothing. He may be an ambassador to journalistic integrity, but he's not ex-military, and therefore, not bound to the same value sets that we military personnel are held accountable to.
