What should soldiers who aren't getting TDY like other soldiers before them, do?

The brigade doesn't have enough money to pay for all the soldiers to go to ALC TDY. Should the soldiers that intended to go suck it up that they're not getting TDY like the other soldiers before them? Or is the brigade trying to save money?

I don't follow. Maybe it's different with the Reserves, but I have always understood that training funds come from a different pot and is distributed by the major command. I have never heard of a BDE element not being able to send soldiers to school. Especially now that the focus is on getting everyone through schools for STEP.

I could be wrong but I don't think individual units pay for Soldiers to attend DA Select NCOES Courses.

SGM Steve Wettstein I believe that the baseline TDY is from a centralized account (although that too is a unit forecast) at DA level. Rental cars are typically unit funded. When you do the estimate in DTS it gets wonky. This time of year is tough going for funding in general. Transactions are shut off by type from now until two weeks before 30Sep as the RM folks sweep all the funds (last bit of Aug/1st week Sep) and begin reconciling the last 5 years of transactions looking for "unliquidated transactions" or ULOs that must be resolved with the appropriate year money.

Probably the best bet Sir but isn't it a bit early in the Fiscal year to reconcile unused funds? I know in the Reserves the AT cycle is is full swing. I used to cut orders and the scramble to de-obligate funds didn't happen until Mid August. RPA vs OMAR funds were a pain in the ass. It was a scramble to "use it or lose it" to Higher HQ's to consolidate. (Then have to beg for $$ you just gave them back)
You are absolutely correct in your Rental car observation.
I think a bigger point here that is not known to the SGT might be available ALC slots to his Unit and Soldiers availability and ability to meet APFT and Ht/Wt upon arrival. I couldn't count how many times I spent the Army's good money to ship a Soldier only to scramble with SATO to get a return flight home 2 days later.
SGT Williams, Does Ft Hood have the ALC on Base for your particular MOS? If so, TDY shouldn't be an issue at all.

LTC Jason Mackay - MTSA is the centralized TDY account for DA schools, OES, NCOES. You have to pull the ATRS school instructions to see what is auth for TDY like rental car and per diem. Sometimes they give you a meal card and barracks
