Especially if someone that served and was proud to, then they should tell others about their service and how proud they were to serve.

Stop trying to push diversity to the point of excluding everyone. The military IS diverse. As a veteran who served in this millennium, I served with people who truly saw the color of your camo - not your skin. I am also a female and encounter(ed) more resistance from female civilians than I ever did from male service members. Not to mention the unmentionable - "don't ask don't tell" - we didn't ask, but everyone knew and no one cared!!
Can we just go back to the good old days....like 10 years ago....when we all just cared about the mission and not who was the most included?

Education, healthcare, benefits - it's honestly a full darn package. The military is the best gig around if you make it through! We need to focus on patriotism instead of what we can give to incentivize people.

After the Navy, I was an Army civilian. They are not the same atmospheres or cultures. "John Wayne" is ignorant and afraid of who has their back. I'm not saying all soldiers are like that, but those personality types didn't join to see the world, get an education, or to learn about different cultures. Some horses can be led with apples, and some prefer carrots. I would never want to serve with anyone that hated me for my race, orientation, religion, or culture. There are still many people that join strictly because they can be with their other hateful "John Wayne" brothers/sisters and thrive in that environment. Unfortunately, I witnessed it more frequently with the Army. The opportunity to hate can be a motivator for some, but to be hated can be a major deterrent for nearly everyone.

We need to let them know they are joining something special a brother/sisterhoood - not something to criticize and homogenize to whatever is going on in society at the moment.

We need to "EDUCATE" the younger generations regarding the true, accurate and honest examples of service and sacrifice by American veterans! Without that service and those sacrifices, the American citizen would not have the FREEDOMS most Americans take for granted! We must show them the DIRECT result of that service and sacrifice and how without it we would be another TOTALITARIAN country without an effective constitution that LIMITS the governments powers!

Get back to the basics and provide examples of our American Pride. Get corporate America to buy in as these are the future employees that will run their businesses. Leverage the Veteran Service organizations in each of the communities to aide in the recruiting efforts (this was my reason for joining - listening to my elders speak of far-off lands and the interesting time spent.) Increase the two programs immediately (promotion points for those Active Duty and Reservist that aide the Recruiting Services and put more money into keeping the force (Reenlistments). Just a few thoughts.

We should have a president that knows how to lead and not allow transgenders in our military.

What can we do? Maybe this is simply a generational shift, people are moving away from the military. You know, my stepdad told me he joined because he couldn't find any other job; in fact, very rarely have I heard anyone say military was their first choice, it was always because of XYZ they felt compelled to join. Short of another great disaster, or "rally around the leader" event like 9/11, this is just the natural ebb and flow.
