Veterans have many skills (or traits) that any employer is looking for. They include loyalty, the ability to work within a team, be mission oriented, time management, and experience working in diverse environments with diverse individuals. What most veterans lack is the ability to convey those skills to employers. Many employers also lack the knowledge of the positive skills that a veteran brings to the table.

What soft skills do you believe make Veterans a great hire? What soft skills do you feel we often lack?

Focus, company success (team player), honesty, drive.

On the weak side, lack of patience, unwillingness to learn foreign language "Civilianese", lack of style points. These things you grow into. Just don't take too long.

Could you add some depth to the "lack of style?"

Mils tend to be rough around the edges vs. typical professional office culture. So my advice is to observe the dynamic and come up to speed quick on the social taboos.
