MAJ (Join to see) I was disgusted to work with many folks that had very poor work ethics. I also had a hard time dealing with managers that were incompetent.

Mission orientation. Sadly, most American corporations resemble bureaucracies these days. Employees are more concerned with dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s than with profitable growth of the company. Most small businesses and entrepreneurs are mission oriented, but few of those could afford me. The one exception was the first two years that I was under contract to Toyota USA. There I learned the "Toyota Way" and it was like heaven. Sadly, they reorganized their upper management and the president was called back home to Japan to take a higher position in the parent corporation and his replacement wasn't up to leading and Toyota USA lost its way. Sad. Two years more and I happily moved on to other contracts.

Thats great feedback. And its also interesting because veterans are seen as the rigid, bureaucrats for the most part, yet they have the skills that are not well recognized. How did you cope with it when you worked with non vets?

MAJ (Join to see) - I worked with very few vets. On those rare occasions when I did, I had the best working relationships

CPT Jack Durish - I suspected as much. Vets tend to gravitate towards each other it seems and when they do, they reinforce their beliefs.

Trying to work, while non-vets stand around the water cooler, whining/crying. Having them forget what the boss said was a priority. Worrying more about getting off early, than finishing their work., etc.

SGM Bill Frazer thank you for the insight - I am especially interested in your thoughts on vet KSAOs as an HR professional
