I learned I could endure cold - I said cold weather. Yet, there are colder places in this world than I endured. I learned to push my limits. I learned to speak up, and that has served me well in other jobs since.

I learned a lot of things about myself while in the military. I learned how to work as a team player/team member rather than always doing it by myself. Also, in dealing with many different type of leadership styles for soldiers from different backgrounds, customs and cultures. You have to take the time to get to know them and what motivates them.

I learned that I was stronger than I ever imagined I could be. I learned that I could do anything I put my mind to and that I could have a real and better family with my brothers and sisters I served with than I had growing up it changed me for the better.

Attitude reflects altitude! I’ve always possessed a really good attitude which definitely came from my parents. What I didn’t know was when channeled correctly, took me to the top of the enlisted ranks. From boot camp, to school, through all the deployments, to that last speech on retirement day. It’s all about your outlook!!

What I learn during my military career, was I had to work as a team to get to the next process. I could no longer just depend on myself to complete tasks, it’s a team effort.

I learned I was able to accomplish whatever I set my mind to. Be it me getting promoted, accomplishing a mission, managing work and school, etc.

I guess it was that I had more endurance than I thought I had. Not just for the PT part, but also for the long haul in the service. 24 years is not much time for some but when you are away from family as much as I was, that takes a lot of endurance when you are missing them all the time. I also the fact that I was a pretty good leader. I never had my troops doing anything unless I was right there working along side them. It gained me respect and trust from my soldiers, as any good leader should have.
