Scan the document and along with the best copy you get, put it in a safe deposit box at the bank. Make a full copy of your medical record as well. Scanning is fine too. Put that in the bank as well. Lots of sob stories about lost records. Don't be a lost record.

CAPT Kevin B.: Great advice Capt. You never know when a mysterious fire in the records department will wipe out your records. Of course, it will not damage the record right next to yours, but yours will definitely be toast.
Also, never file it with the recorder's office as it has sensitive information which can be used to open credit cards, etc. I know several people who filed their DD214s with their local recorder's office. Dumb move.

Many state and county veteran Assistance offices will hold a certified copy for you. VA will need it if they don't have it already. Ask specifically which copy (marked copies 1-4) they need. Once VA has it, you can download it through eBenefits website.

1. If it is terminal leaves, you will get one when you sign out of the Post. 2. Damn near everyone who wants to hire you, cause employers can get extra for hiring qualified Vets.

you've already finished clearing right? getting your dd214 should have been your last step, unless you still need to go to final out. no one from the unit is going to need a copy of it. when doeas your leave start?

SPC (Join to see) - it seems weird to sign out on leave forever essentially, but it is so.
